Many people have probably more than once encountered a situation where they bought glasses with a sticker located directly on the lenses. And nothing could come to mind except to scrape it off with a sharp object or wet it with water for quick removal. Thereby exposing it to mechanical defects in the form of scratches and remaining sticky layer on the glass. Why they are placed on optical material and how to remove it without a trace, without spoiling the aesthetic appearance, you will learn from this article.
What are these stickers for?
Some eyewear manufacturers apply a distinctive mark of their brand in the form of a logo on the outer surface of left-handed lenses. This marking does not have specific requirements and standards; it usually focuses on the originality of the product. Although, they are found much more often on fakes, especially when falsifying premium products.
What kind of glue do they “sit” on?
They are fixed in two ways. This is the magnetization of a label to lenses, in particular from the expensive segment, and gluing using a specific transparent adhesive base, which produces the effect of the absence of a label.
Ways to remove a sticker without consequences
Important! Under no circumstances use abrasive agents or aggressive chemicals for removal, as they can leave mechanical damage on the surface of the lens and ruin the special coating.
First, try the most gentle and a surprisingly simple method that gives 99% results. Take thick, colorless wide tape, cut a piece about 2 cm. Squeeze it at both ends with your fingers, holding the sticky side down, so that it takes on an arched shape. Bring it to the sticker without touching the lens itself. Place it on it and pull it back with a sharp movement. If it doesn't work the first time, repeat the action again.
Another way involves using a regular hair dryer. A hot stream of air is directed at the object for 30 seconds. This will reduce adhesion, after which the label should move away from the surface of the lens.
Another tip will help you easily get rid of the logo. Dilute liquid soap or dishwashing detergent in warm water, moisten a sponge generously and apply to it. The adhesive base of the sticker should dissolve after 10-15 minutes, after which try carefully prying it with your fingernail and removing it.
And the last try - wet disposable wipe for glasses. Place it on top of the tag for a short time, and then carefully try to peel it off the glass from any angle with your finger.
What to do if it doesn't come off?
If none of the above actions gave a positive result, or you are afraid of damaging the surface of the lens, we recommend that you seek help from the staff of the nearest optician or store where the product was purchased.
