Doctors say that sleeping in complete darkness is good for your health. Our rooms are illuminated by street lamps, night lamps, and lights from household appliances; it is not pitch black. If you're trying to sleep on a train or plane, you'll have to contend with extra light. Sleep glasses will help you sleep comfortably. It’s very easy to sew them yourself, it will take you a minimum of time.
Design of sleep mask glasses
This accessory consists of two parts: the mask itself, as well as the elastic band with which the glasses are attached.
The mask is made of two or three layers of fabric: outer, inner, and, if necessary, thick lining.
Important! We take into account that a padding made of padding polyester or holofiber gives softness to the product, but prevents skin breathing.
Necessary materials
We will need:
- chintz, satin, calico, flannel, silk – 0.2 m;
- padding polyester, or another layer of cotton fabric - flap;
- elastic band – 20-30 cm;
- threads;
- tailor's chalk and scissors;
- lace, braid, applique - optional.
Important! The mask is made from natural or mixed fabrics. The best material is considered to be natural silk, which pleasantly cools the skin, breathes, and also, according to doctors, prevents the appearance of wrinkles.
Experts advise choosing a wider elastic band – 1.5-3 cm; too narrow one will tangle your hair.
Measurements
Measurements you will need:
- Head circumference. Please keep in mind that the glasses are attached with an elastic band, so we take measurements fairly tightly, but not too tightly.
- The width of the face is the distance between the temples.
- The height of the mask at its widest point is around the cheekbones.
- The height of the mask is in the center (nose).
Pattern
You can choose any shape, not necessarily the classic oval.
How to cut:
- Set aside the width of the mask horizontally.
- Finding the middle.
- In the middle we put the minimum height, measured along the line of the nose.
- In the area of the cheekbones we set aside the greatest height.
- We connect smoothly.
- If the elastic is inside the fabric part, then you will need a rectangular blank, slightly larger than the length of the elastic - 50-55 cm. The width is at least twice the width of the elastic, plus allowances.
Stages of work
Step-by-step instruction:
- We place the pattern on the fabric and chalk it. We need two parts from the main fabric (from different ones, if the inner and outer sides are different), as well as from padding polyester.
- Leave seam allowances and cut out.
- Cut out the part for the elastic band.
- We sew it together, insert the elastic using a safety pin, and make fastenings so that the elastic does not “run away.”
- If you plan to decorate the outside of the glasses, then do it now.
- We put the parts together so that after you turn them out, the gasket remains inside.It is convenient to sew it to the inside, and then sew the outside.
- We fold the fasteners inward, leaving only allowances. We make sure that our part with the elastic band does not twist.
- We pin it with pins.
- We sew, leaving a small window to turn the product inside out.
- Along the least straight areas, for example, the nose, or curly protrusions, we make allowance notches.
- Turn it inside out.
- We sew up the free area.
- We decorate with details that require sewing onto ready-made glasses.
- Iron it.
- Let's try it on.
Important! Cotton fabric must first be washed or ironed with steam so that it shrinks, then cut.
These sleep mask glasses can be made from scraps of fabric, which any needlewoman probably has, and in an hour you can provide the whole family with useful accessories.
