Jiu Jitsu is a traditional oriental fighting art. It has its origins in Japanese culture, and the inhabitants of this country are very sensitive to traditions. They believe that a person who intentionally or unknowingly violates norms cannot be considered an expert or guide. This attitude is also enshrined in the “code” of fighters. Jiu-jitsu practitioners do not have the right to not comply with the dress code or appear at training in a kimono tied up haphazardly.
How to tie a Jiu Jitsu belt correctly?
Most often, athletes resort to 2 methods. The first method we considered is more suitable for students, the second - for masters. The division is not strict; in fact, both options can be used, regardless of status and regalia.
First method:
- fold in half and thereby determine the middle;
- apply the middle to the central point of the lower press;
- wrap the belt around the body so that the ends are at the back;
- twist the edges, bring them forward;
- correct it (the ends on both sides need to be equal in length);
- overlap the ends (the right one should be on top of the left one);
- we pass the right edge through all layers of the belt (put it in from the bottom, pull it out from the top);
- tighten, correct;
- at this stage, the once right end becomes left, and it must be crossed with the right again (crossing should not take place close to the knot; let the left end lie on top of the right);
- when crossing, a free space is formed, the left end should be sent into it (put in from below, pull out from above);
- tighten, correct.
Important! If in the penultimate step you place the right end on top of the left, or in the penultimate step you put it in from the top and take it out from the bottom, you will get a vertical knot in which one end is located exactly on top of the other and just hangs from the knot. This option is unacceptable. The master may not allow a student to attend classes if his appearance does not meet the standards.
Second method:
- repeat the steps described above until the right end first penetrates all layers of the belt (at this stage the right tip becomes the left one, don't forget);
- take the left edge and insert it from top to bottom between the first and second layers of the belt encircling the body (pass it to the right of the knot, that is, on the other side);
- there is no need to push it all the way through; you should leave a “loop”;
- thread the right end of the belt into this “loop”;
- tighten the knot, correct it.
Features of the belt regulations in jiu jitsu
There are only 2 strict requirements:
- the belt should encircle the body twice (in 2 layers);
- a double knot must be used.
The rules are simple, and therefore it seems that any tying option will do. Actually this is not true. If you use original knitting techniques or use knots from areas other than sports, this can cause injury. It will appear after landing on your stomach after a throw, or rather, after landing on a hard knot.
