Where does the combat path of a hand-to-hand combat adept begin? No, not from setting up a shot, studying techniques, or even warming up. The path begins with correctly folding the kimono and tying the belt, which is the subject of this article.
The belt is an important part of the kimono. Its other name is obi. When a reception is performed, it keeps the jacket from opening. Its color determines the owner's rank in the world of hand-to-hand combat.
If the technique of tying the belt is incorrect, the jacket will constantly “fly out” and fall open, which will cause inconvenience and comments from the trainer.
Important! Choose a belt that suits you. The length can vary from 2 to 3.2 meters.
Two step-by-step methods: how to tie a belt on a kimono
There are two most common tying methods. They are universal and are used in addition to hand-to-hand combat in karate, judo, jiu-jitsu, and sambo.
First way:
- First, we determine the middle and stretch the obi along the waist just above the navel;
- We wrap it around the waist so that the ends come forward. Hold the ends with both hands at your sides;
- The left edge looks down, and the right one is drawn first under it, then under the strip on the stomach. We get a loop that is not tightened to the end;
- We pull the left end through the resulting loop and tighten it as tight as possible. The main thing is that the knot should be flat.
Second way:
- Take the end of the belt at waist level. Select the length of this short end to suit you (30–40 cm);
- Make two turns around the body with the long edge. The layers are superimposed strictly on each other;
- Using the outer upper end, we pick up two layers on the stomach from below;
- We repeat the remaining steps according to the first method.
Important! The difference between the methods is only in the methods of encircling the waist, but the knot remains unchanged.
Useful tips
When tying, make sure that the kimono is securely fixed and that no elements of it interfere with your movement. Otherwise, shortcomings in form may affect the execution of techniques.
After you make two turns of the obi around the body and tie it, pay attention to the length of the ends - it should not exceed 30 cm.
Important! The correctness of the knot is checked as follows: the ends will be below the edge of the jacket, but above the level of the knees.
If a belt is purchased for children, you should choose a softer one than for an adult, otherwise he will not be able to tie it himself.
This is the basic information you need to know when choosing a belt. We have discussed the main tying methods. With certain skill, the entire process will take about one minute. Fruitful training and success in sports achievements!
