Martial arts have been invisibly present in our lives for a very long time. Today karate is popular again. Young people prefer to practice martial arts to learn how to move correctly, be able to stand up for themselves and be in good physical shape. However, few people know about the rules of uniform and the classification of degrees in this discipline. Meanwhile, in karate there is a very definite division, gradation of students into degrees, which depend on the nature of the knowledge acquired and the honed skill of combat. Each level of training is assigned a specific belt color.
How many belts are there in karate, how are they arranged by color?
In karate, the Japanese system of dividing students predominates. There are 9 steps in it, each of which has its own color, representing the acquired skills. The color sequence is:
- white;
- golden (yellow);
- orange;
- green;
- red;
- purple (dark blue);
- brown;
- dark brown;
- black.
Important! The white belt is awarded to all students without exception and is considered the initial stage of martial arts training. Black belt is the highest level of skill.
It is noteworthy that each belt is assigned only based on the results of passed exams and test tasks. Only by successfully overcoming all the tests does a person reach the highest regalia. A black belt is sewn for him, on which his name and dan are made with special embroidery. Regular training greatly wears out the fabric of the belt, so the black one is sewn from white, over which thick black fabric is sewn. It is assigned only once and for life. Each color has its own special meaning.
The ancients believed that if rags that were once cloth dangled around a fighter’s waist, this indicated constant intensive training and high status. In addition, color can indicate the fact of achieving a certain skill. To obtain a black belt, you need to pass the appropriate exams and receive recognition from higher masters.
White
The snow-white belt with which karatekas tie up their kimono speaks of the fighter’s potential. Each person comes to martial art clean, like an empty notebook that needs to be filled with wisdom and experience. The color white symbolizes this purity and open possibilities.
Yellow
The golden belt is a symbol of the completion of the initial stage of preparation. The exam for a yellow accessory is taken six months after the start of training. At this moment, a person learns to comprehend his own body, tune it to the desired work, put the energy of the whole body and the strength of the torso into the blows.
This stage of training involves physical and psychological training, where the student achieves peace with himself and learns to concentrate on his goals.The yellow color indicates that the initial stage of training has been completed, and the fighter can begin more serious training.
Orange
When the yellow color fades, it indicates that the fighter is training with due diligence and has already achieved a certain stability. It's time to switch to an orange accessory, which symbolizes order in a person's thoughts and physical condition.
Intensified training receives a certain order, becomes calmer and more measured. Now the student is working on endurance and fortitude. The technology has most likely been developed during this period; all that remains is to work on improvement.
Green
This color symbolizes a new stage in training, where the student must choose what is more important for him in karate, receptivity or sensuality. These qualities will help you apply your skills in the future without unnecessary thoughts.
Important! The green belt is a new serious stage in training, where a person already has certain skills and learns to manage his body in accordance with the circumstances, automatically, without unnecessary thoughts.
Red
Fifth kyu. The color red represents blood shed in a fair fight. This is another important stage of preparation and the transition to a new, more complex level of training.
Blue
In another interpretation, the purple belt shows the tremendous capabilities and good technique of a fighter. At the same time, this is a stage of psychological training, where a person learns to adapt to circumstances, endure difficulties and survive in difficult conditions. A complex and intense stage of preparation for a master.
Brown
Time to show creativity in karate. Not many have been awarded such a high title. But you shouldn’t stop there, regalia for the highest skill is still ahead.
Dark brown
The highest level before the title of “master”. A person has already comprehended wisdom and acquired the necessary skills, his technique is at the highest level, hard training helps improve his wrestling experience.
Black
Black color is the degree of the highest skill of a fighter. Having received a belt, a person must independently think about self-improvement, regularly conduct psychological training and hone the acquired fighting skills.
A person who comes to karate must understand that the belt is only a symbol of the experience gained and the constant desire to gain strength of mind and strength of body. A karateka must not stop there; each color implies further self-improvement.
There is an obvious contradiction in the article between the given table of belts and their description. In the table - the red belt is 10 dan - the highest achievement, and in the description - this is the fifth kyu, far from even the black 1 dan.
In some styles of karate, the red belt is considered the last, and in others it is not.
