Humanity does not stand still. Every day new inventions appear, new technologies are born. This happens in all areas of human life and activity. Fabric production is no exception. Scientists have long sought to create an artificial fiber that is as close to natural in quality and properties as possible.
One of the latest significant developments in the textile industry is the material lyocell.
Lyocell - what is it?
Lyocell - what kind of fabric is it and where is it used? To answer the question whether lyocell is a natural fabric or not, consider the history of its creation and composition.
In 1988, in England, at a pilot plant of Courtaulds Fibers UK, wood fiber was created from cellulose produced from eucalyptus wood. In 1991, lyocell, a fabric, was first introduced to the market. And already in 1997, its production volume amounted to 200,000 tons.
What is lyocell - it is a fabric, a material that includes artificial fibers, but has natural properties. Using nanotechnology, the material turned out to be a truly breakthrough in textile production. He took all the best qualities of artificial and natural fibers and combined them into one. In terms of its characteristics, lyocell fabric is not inferior to cotton, wool and silk fabrics. Visually it looks like silk. The hygienic properties of the fabric are similar to cotton. Durability - like satin.
Let's look at lyocell - what kind of fabric it is and what properties it has:
- Its production process is environmentally friendly and safe.
- Lyocell material is a very strong fabric that cannot be torn even when wet. It is stronger than cotton and viscose.
- Lyocell fabric is a material that has antibacterial properties, like eucalyptus wood.
- Excellent air permeability.
- Easy to paint.
- Lyocell is a hypoallergenic material.
- Doesn't wrinkle.
- Does not attract dust.
- It stretches and hugs your figure beautifully.
- It wears for a long time without losing its appearance.
- Doesn't shed.
- There are no pills on clothes.
These were positive properties of the material, but there are also negative ones. There are few of them:
- the possibility of fabric shrinking after washing if not properly cared for;
- mold formation when exposed to high humidity conditions;
- high price.
We looked at what lyocell is and what its positive and negative sides are. It has many more advantages than disadvantages.
You can find this fabric on sale under different names, depending on the country of production:
- If the product is made in the USA, it is called "Lyocel" or "Tencel".
- Products manufactured inMytishchi (Russia) – is called “Orcel”.
Fabric that is 100% lyocell is very expensive. To reduce the cost, during its production various impurities are added to the composition. It can be cotton, elastane, modal. Such impurities can be no more than 50%.
Lyocell - what is this material and where is it used?
Lyocell clothing is comfortable and beautiful. Evening dresses made from this fabric look unforgettable and luxurious. It has an unobtrusive shine, falls in beautiful tails and fits the figure thanks to its elastic properties.
Lyocell fabric - what kind of material? It can be smooth and soft or fluffy, and can imitate suede or leather.
Smooth lyocell is visually very similar to silk, but not as slippery. Used for sewing clothes and producing linen.
Fluffy fabric is used to create warm clothes. It is called lyocell yarn, which means: depending on the method of weaving the threads and the composition of the material, fabric with lyocell can be produced with a pronounced texture, reminiscent of knitting or wool.
Terry fabric with lyocell is used to make bathrobes, towels and sheets. These things are very soft and comfortable.
Lyocell, what kind of fabric is it and where else is it used?
The unique qualities of lyocell fibers allow it to be used not only in clothing. It is used:
- In the manufacture of decorative textiles - pillowcases, covers.
- Expensive lyocell bed linen is the best luxury gift for family and friends.
- Lyocell has now become very popular as a filler. They fill pillows, mattresses and blankets. It retains its elastic properties for a long time, very quickly returns to its original shape and does not clump.Such products are distinguished by lightness and warmth, long service life, high breathability, and an obstacle to the appearance of dust mites and microbes.
- Using fibers, using their strength, various cables, conveyor belts, and covers are made.
- The medical industry uses the antibacterial properties of lyocell to make bandages and bandages.
Caring for products made from lyocell fabric, what not to do:
- To avoid mold growth, avoid storing clothes in damp areas.
- Drying of products is allowed in a ventilated area. Avoid exposure to sunlight.
- Things should be stored in ventilated cases. Air blankets and pillows periodically.
- Wash by hand or in a washing machine on delicate cycle at t=40o.
- Squeeze gently.
- Things wrinkle slightly. But if necessary, it is recommended to iron them, turning them inside out, with a warm iron in silk mode.
If you are not lazy and follow these simple rules, then lyocell products will serve you for a long time and reliably.
Lyocell children's clothing, what is it? Considering the hypoallergenic and bactericidal properties of the material, various children's blankets, children's clothing and underwear are made from it.
In addition to lyocell fabric, selanik fabric is often used for sewing children's clothing. What it is, fabric composition and application will be discussed below.
Selanik is a whole knitted cotton fabric, to which synthetic fibers such as viscose, acrylic or polyester are often added. The front side is smooth, the back side is slightly combed. This is material for all seasons. It, like lyocell, is used for the production of children's clothing - overalls, blouses, hats. Products made from it are completely safe, because they are made from natural cotton fiber. In this way, selanic is similar to lyocell.
Lyocell is a worthy alternative to natural fabrics. This is a new generation fabric, consisting of a huge number of advantages and the only drawback - its considerable cost.
