A good half of clothes, shoes and accessories are equipped with special fasteners that connect and hold their elements. Buckle is one of them.
What is a buckle?
This is a simple and useful device that is an integral part of a belt or belt.
There are many options for installing a belt fastener. It is based on a metal or plastic (much less often – leather or wooden) frame of various shapes, which can be solid or curly.
Most classic standard specimens are equipped with a movable or fixed part - a peg, securely attached to the frame. It is inserted into one of the holes on the belt, securing it securely. In automatic buckles and plates it is replaced by a clip. Some types, namely belt loops and double-slit ones, do without a peg and rely on friction. A modern lock buckle has a latch.
Purpose of the buckle
First of all this is a universal fastener. The belt, wrapping around the arm, leg, waist, neck, is pulled through the frame.Using one of the above devices (pin, latch), she holds the belt in a certain diameter of a circle corresponding to the volume of any part of the body. Thanks to this, the item does not slide out of place.
In uniform sets, the badge is decorated with insignia. It must be kept in perfect condition: constantly polished and shiny. It is a symbol of belonging to the military, law enforcement agencies, educational institutions, and other associations, a source of pride and even envy.. For example, the belts of Soviet Army soldiers' uniforms were engraved with a hammer and sickle in the center of a five-pointed star. Such examples are of great value for fibulist collectors (from the Latin “fibula” - buckle).
Interesting! Buckle today does not have to have practical value. Often this is a modern, stylish accessory that decorates an outfit and complements the look.
History of appearance
Historians attribute its invention to nomadic peoples. There are many reasons for this: the love of decorating belts and belts, the need to keep warm during long journeys, the need to attach weapons to the body.
Sarmatians, Scythians and Turks even before our era men's and women's belts were distinguished by their clasps. The latter were richly decorated with precious stones and various overlays. Later it became a sign of prosperity, and the buckle began to be perceived as an accessory, indicating the status of its owner.
Where is it used?
The versatility of the fastening determines a wide range of its applications:
- On clothing belts. A belt inserted into trousers or a skirt with the help of an attachment “adjusts” them to the figure. In a dress, this is more of a decorative detail, making the silhouette more fitted and elegant. On jackets, coats and down jackets, with its help, the strap presses the material tightly to the body, better protecting it from cold and wind.
- On boots, boots, sandals, women's sandals - holds the foot securely in the shoe.
- On watch straps. Thanks to this small clasp, the accessory fits perfectly on the wrist.
- Dog collars and leashes are designed in such a way that the animal is under control and at the same time does not suffocate.
- On bags, backpacks and parachutes, the straps are attached to the base, while simultaneously adjusting their length.
- On a belt or sling for carrying weapons, which is included in the uniform.
- On special belts and hangers for securing various loads.
By her own a buckle without a belt is rarely used. Its design largely depends on factors such as the size of the belt, its purpose, the need for adjustment or lack thereof, reliability, and the speed of unfastening and fastening.
