Situations often arise when the lace in sweatpants “flies out” of the drawstring. Moreover, this can happen anywhere, not just at home. There is no need to immediately run to the sewing workshop or throw the item away. There are ways to quickly fix the problem using available tools.
What do you need for this?
To insert a lace into your pants, you need to prepare:
- the ribbon itself, which will match the color of the clothing;
- sewing threads;
- pin;
- scissors.
Since the lace is soft, it is inconvenient to pull it through the drawstring. That's what the pin is for. She will guide you and help you quickly and easily return everything to its place.
What can you use as a guide?
But sometimes a pin is not at hand, and the ribbon needs to be inserted urgently. In this case, the following can be used as a guide:
- a paper clip that fits easily into the fabric;
- a small nail (in this case, the ribbon is wrapped from the side of the head);
- a cocktail tube or a pen refill (the lace is threaded inside and carefully secured with a stapler);
- a thick needle, for example, a machine needle or a gypsy needle (the ribbon that needs to be returned to its place is pierced with the sharp side and tied into a knot, and the guide with the opposite end goes into the drawstring);
- an unbent hairpin, a wire (the lace is tied on one side);
There is also a special device - a “puller”, which can be purchased at a sewing store.
You can get by with foreign objects if make the ribbon stiff. This can be done by wrapping its tip with tape or thick paper. In the first case, you need to be careful, as the adhesive tape can damage the surface of the fabric.
Helpful information! If you don’t have any of the above on hand, you can simply tie one end into a knot that is smaller in size than the hole in the drawstring. Next, insert it inside, moving it with your fingers. This method will be more difficult and longer, but will help in an unforeseen situation.
Threading the lace - step by step instructions
How to insert a ribbon using a guide:
- Select a lace. It should match not only in color, but also in length and width. You can wrap it around your waist and tighten it a little. It should not dangle, but at the same time it should not squeeze. It is recommended to leave the length 20-30 cm more than the waist circumference. The width should be narrower than the opening of the drawstring by a couple of millimeters so that the lace can easily pass through.
- Attach to a guide object.
- Insert the drawstring into the hole and begin to pull, gathering and unraveling the fabric of the pants. Wherein you need to make sure that the second end of the lace does not “run away” inside either, and the guide object does not catch on the fabric.
- When the ribbon appears on the other side, remove the pin, paper clip, etc.
- Spread evenly along the entire length using your fingers.
- You can attach special clamps to the ends (so that it doesn’t fly out anymore) or tie neat knots. They should be larger in diameter than the drawstring hole.
This technology can be used for any clothing: for pants, skirts, sweatshirts, etc. There is another way, how to thread a ribbon using thread and a gypsy needle:
- Thread a strong thread, folded in half, into the eyelet and tie a knot. It is better not to use nylon, it will get tangled, which will make work difficult.
- Make a few stitches on the ribbon.
- Start pushing the needle with the blunt end (to reduce the risk of it snagging on the drawstring fabric inside) into the lace hole until it comes out the other side.
- Pull the tip out, cut the threads and completely remove their remains.
Helpful information! If the old lace is in place, but just needs to be replaced for some reason, this is quite easy to do.
Detailed step-by-step instructions:
- Attach a new one to one end of the old lace in any way. Wherein keep in mind that after manipulation they will simply need to be detached from each other. Therefore, it is recommended to use a stapler, a pin, or simply tie a weak knot.
- Pull the loose end of the old lace until the point where it joins the new lace appears out of the hole.
- Unpin them from each other. Straighten the new lace with your fingers along the entire length of the drawstring.
- Tie the ends into beautiful knots or attach clips.
Putting a lace back into your pants or any other clothing is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance.This can be done anywhere: at work, at home or even on the street, using items at hand or without them at all.
