Fasteners are an invention that is probably as old as clothing itself. They serve for easier putting on, better fit of the product (especially from a fabric that is not too stretchy). Fasteners can be functional or decorative, located on the front side or sewn in a hidden way.
Buttons
There are many varieties of them. They are used with different fabrics, models, and are made from almost any material. The appearance of buttons is limited only by the imagination of the manufacturer: from covering with leather or textiles to painting, rhinestones, and engraving. Main distinctive features and design features:
- Form. They can be flat (round or square) with holes for sewing, or in the form of a fungus - sewn into a slot in the leg. They also have a certain volume: from a ball and a stick to a specific figure.
- Material. Can be almost anything: plastic, epoxy resin, metal, wood, stones.
- Mounting type. Several holes (usually 2 or 4) through which the button is sewn to the fabric with thread.There are ones for threading ribbon or braid, and also only one hole if the button has a leg. There is another option - a rope, in the slot of which a ribbon is threaded, allowing the button to slide along it.
- Size. They differ from each other in thickness and dimensions (in radius - if the shape is round).
Pukli
Used for chef's coats. Made of heat-resistant plastic in the form of a monolithic disk on a stand and a ball, they are reliable and quick to use. Only this type of fastener allows you to swap the soiled side of the jacket if necessary. There are:
- plain;
- in colors that match the design of the organization;
- with prints, engraving, gold or silver plating, painting.
Brakes
A cone or block of wood that fits into a loop. Initially used to connect the halyard to the flag. Today, fasteners made according to the same principle are used on coats, jackets, and knitted items. They consist of three parts: a button, a loop, and an overlay made of thick fabric or leather. Ideal for Chinese silk dresses. Made from wood, plastic, glass, yarn, metal.
Contact tape
Popularly nicknamed "Velcro". Consists of two different stripes: one with loops and the other with small spines. It is flexible, durable, ideal for children's clothing. Often used for tourism and sports lines, in professional uniforms. Used for pockets, fixing necks, sleeves. Even a child can handle them quickly and easily. It is attached either by sewing or with glue (there are often self-adhesive options).
Important! I do not recommend using it on knitted items, with fur or on light fabrics. Then everything possible will stick to the Velcro, and things with thin fabric will probably get damaged.
Today, the variety of fasteners is simply enormous, so depending on the material and style of the product, you can easily choose the appropriate option to suit your taste and budget. Many materials allow you to change the appearance of a thing beyond recognition, being a functional or decorative element.
