What is a visor

visorThe 21st century is the century of technology and modernization. Many interesting inventions were created during this time. Part of our life is also means of transportation - transport. Today we will touch on the motorcycle industry, or more precisely, a small part of the equipment - a visor installed on motorcycle helmets.

What is it, what are its main goals? What material is it made of, how to use it correctly? These and other questions are studied in this article.

What is a visor

what is a visorSo, this is a special protective glass for a helmet used in various fields. For example, in motorcycle helmets such a component protects the face from dust and wind, in hockey helmets from a puck flying at high speed. A considerable number of requirements are placed on a visor: such glass must be strong and resistant, must not distort the environment, and effectively combat fogging.

What is it needed for

motorcycle helmet visorAs stated above, such protective glass is designed to protect the biker from wind, dust, direct sunlight, ultraviolet radiation and, most importantly, from damage. Tinted visors play the role of sunglasses, but clear versions also block ultraviolet rays, which are harmful to health when exposed directly. In addition, some companies make special motorcycle helmets with diopters (lenses) for bikers with myopia.

Tip: motorcycle helmets come with both a fixed visor and a portal (lifting) visor. If you choose a motorcycle helmet for moving around the city, choose one with a portal helmet.

The visor sweats the most in rainy weather or fog. To prevent fogging from preventing you from continuing your journey, it is recommended to open it slightly by 1–2 mm. There are also a lot of sprays that are applied to the inside of the glass. But when interacting with water, the liquid is washed off and the protective glass needs to be reapplied. You can purchase a special film that is adhesive from the inside. This method works great against fogging, but over time it peels off and needs to be replaced.

visor for hockey playersIn sports, visors are found on hockey helmets. Their task is also protective. They are designed to protect your eyes from small ice chips. They also protect the face from puck hits and accidental impacts.

What material is it made from?

They are made of plastic. Most often, these are mixed plastic masses. Of course, most companies that manufacture motorcycle helmets do not disclose the exact chemical composition of this protective glass in order to maintain secrecy from competitors, so we will not dwell on this at this stage.

How to use it correctly

washing the visorAs a rule, almost all visors are protected from scratches. It happens that after another trip it is exposed to dirt and dust. In order to eliminate this unpleasant problem, carefully remove the visor from the helmet, then place it under running water, take a sponge and wipe it. If all the glass is covered in smeared insect corpses, simply place a wet cloth on it for 10–15 minutes, after which successful cleaning is guaranteed under running water.

Visors do not require special care, but you should follow a few simple tips:

  • It is not recommended to place the helmet with the visor down, as this can lead to scratches, which are most often caused by this.
  • It is recommended to wipe the glass after each trip.
  • If an anti-fog film is glued to the visor, you need to wipe it with a dry cloth so that the film is not exposed to moisture.

Tip: when purchasing a visor for a motorcycle helmet, consider its compatibility with the model of your motorcycle helmet. There are companies that produce visors for certain models of motorcycle helmets, but there are no universal types.
