Men's hat pattern

If you want to please the man you love, but do not have much experience in sewing, opt for such an item of clothing as a headdress. An ordinary hat will not take up a lot of your time and effort, but it will be perfect as a gift for the upcoming winter holidays and will warm a loved one both literally and figuratively.

Attention! There are quite a few models of this wardrobe element, most of which are quite possible to make yourself.

We offer you one of the lightest options, which can be modified if desired, since such a hat can be used as a starting element for other models.

How to make a pattern for a men's hat

Making a pattern for a standard model of a men's four-piece hat is not a difficult task; any novice seamstress can handle it. To do this you will need:

  • Tape measure.
  • A sheet of A4 paper.
  • Writing utensils and ruler.

This hat can be sewn with or without a lapel. If you want to add such a detail, you should make a pattern for it too.

Men's fleece hat

Fleece - a synthetic material specially invented for sewing warm products. It is very light, elastic, easy to care for and hypoallergenic. And its most amazing property is that even when wet it continues to heat. It is also important that this material does not crumble at the cut site, which means there is no need to further process it. So Fleece is a great option for sewing a hat.

Hat made of four wedges and a lapel

The most popular and easiest to make is a hat model, consisting of four identical wedges and a lapel detail. If the craftswoman has a sewing machine at her disposal, creating such a headdress will be quite quick, and most of the time will be spent working on calculations and patterns.

Constructing a pattern

In order to make a suitable pattern, you need to use a measuring tape and take some measurements. Namely, measure:

  • Head circumference (OG1).
  • Distance from the forehead to the back of the head (through the crown - OG2).

Divide the circumference of the head by 4, we get the base of one wedge. We divide the second measurement (the distance from the forehead to the crown) by 2 to obtain the height of the wedge. This pattern element has the shape of a triangle with rounded side edges.

Next, draw a similar element on a sheet of paper using a ruler, using the measurements made earlier. Don't forget to add 1-1.5 cm to the seams on the rounded edges (the base will also increase by 2-3 cm, respectively).

If you want to add another element to such a hat (a lapel), draw a rectangle whose long side is equal to the circumference of the head plus the margin for the seam.

Cutting and sewing

The simplest way to cut this type of headdress is to fold the fabric 4 times, then pin the wedge pattern on top with pins over the entire thickness and cut out 4 parts at once along the contour. Pins will prevent the fabric from moving, and the elements will come out uniform and neat.

Sewing a fleece hat

Then you should cut out a lapel from the fabric, pinning this pattern element to the single-layer fabric (of course, if you will use it).

Important! Please note that fleece, like any other fabric, has a front and back side. To ensure that the product is uniform and beautiful, carefully connect the parts for stitching and secure them together with pins.

Turn the garment inside out and sew the seams using a sewing machine or by hand using a backstitch. This type of seam quite accurately imitates a machine one, and the fluffy structure of the fleece will make the stitches almost invisible.

After sewing is complete, turn the garment right side out. This hat does not require additional processing.

Advice! If you want to get a warmer product for a very cold season, or you want the synthetic material not to come into contact with the body, make an “inner” hat from the same four wedges from the same fleece or natural material (for example, cotton).

In this case, the seams will not be visible inside the headdress. For this option, it is better to make the external elements a little larger - within a centimeter for each element.
