During the times of ancient Rus', only rich and wealthy boyars could afford headdresses made of natural fur. There was no particular variety in the models, and a hat consisting of a wide strip of natural fur and a hat covering the top of the head of woven or leather fabric, worn by both women and men, was called a boyarka.
Today, boyar hats have not lost their popularity; they are worn with fur coats and fur coats. Let's find out if you can sew a headdress yourself.
What material will be needed to create a women's boyarka hat?
Boyarki consist of two parts:
- band - stripes of fur;
- crown - material covering the back of the head.
When planning to sew such a hat yourself, you must first decide on the type of fur. First of all, you need to consider what outerwear the headdress will be worn with. The hat should go well with a fur coat or coat, emphasizing and harmonizing with the overall style.
You can sew a boyarka band from:
- pliable and elastic mink;
- elegant and sophisticated scribble;
- fluffy silver or red fox;
- long-haired and multi-colored raccoon;
- practical and gentle mouton;
- soft and cheap rabbit;
- comfortable to wear raccoon.
Important! Lynx, arctic fox or sable belong to the elite category, and are many times more expensive than a budget rabbit or fox. Mink or arctic fox are considered the most suitable for boyars.
An artificial base can also be used as a material for sewing a band. The main thing is that it is of high quality and harmonizes well with outerwear.
Boyarka hat pattern
The classic women's boyarka is a fur product with a convex and slightly flat band. The upper part of the headdress may have a conical shape.
The pattern consists of 4 elements:
- Top detail.
- Lining top side.
- Lining bottom.
- Lining walls.
Important! The lining and top material are cut in an oblique direction using a stationery knife. When cutting, the fur is cut simultaneously with the lining, on which it is laid with the pile down. The whole process must be optimized as much as possible so that fur consumption is minimal, not forgetting to take into account seam allowances.
We sew a women's boyarka hat with our own hands step by step
After the parts are cut out, you can begin the sewing process. Step by step it looks like this:
- Parts made from lining fabric, crown fabric and fur are turned inside out. The blanks are connected from the sides and secured with pins. After this, stitches are made on a sewing machine - a centimeter from the edge.
Important! The fibers on such a hat should be directed towards the face.
- The blanks are turned onto the face and connected together with pins.
- Sew 1 cm from the edge of the circle from the wrong side so that they are firmly connected to each other.
- The hat is turned right side out and any lint caught under the seam is released.
- Fur parts are connected to each other in the same way.
- The resulting pieces of lining and fur are connected to each other, leaving a hole that will make it possible to turn the hat inside out after the parts are sewn.
- The resulting boyarka is turned inside out, sewing up the remaining gap by hand.
- The final step will be shaking and combing the fur.
To make the finished boyar hat look more impressive and richer, the crown can be made of leather, suede or knitwear, decorated with artistic embroidery. Youth models can be decorated with rhinestones or pearl beads.
