The other day I felt like the heroine of a Russian folk tale, who waved her right hand and... well, you know the rest. But the wave of my hand did not create a miracle, but quite the opposite. I threw my favorite dry powder compact off the table. What happened to her after landing on the tiled kitchen floor is not difficult to guess. Yes - to pieces! It would have been possible, of course, to throw it away if not for one “but” - the powder compact was completely new. I had to think about ways of resuscitation.
Is it possible to restore broken powder?
I’m sure many girls have asked this question at least once in their lives. Some are as “dexterous” as I am; for others, children or pets could help break their favorite camouflage agent; this does not change the essence. When you see that the powder has turned from baked to crumbly, you want to act immediately. Is it worth trying? Certainly!
You can restore broken powder at home using alcohol, iron, and hydrogen peroxide. And it’s quite possible to correct the situation with the use of antiseptic and Vaseline.
Instructions for repairing broken powder
Before starting work, you should carefully examine the “victim” of the fall. The scattered particles should be carefully collected and (if they are large) made even smaller. This is necessary for successful recovery. The fragments collected in their original packaging need to be thoroughly mixed together.
You should not try to restore powder if it has been spilled on a contaminated surface. In this case, it will be cheaper to buy a new one. Subsequent skin treatment by dermatologists will cost much more.
Alcohol method
To restore broken powder using this method, you will have to perform the following steps:
- Scattered particles are collected back into the packaging. Once opened, it is placed in a clean plastic bag.
- Through cellophane, using a regular spoon, crush everything that remains intact to a powder state.
- Remove the bag and add a few drops of pure alcohol to the powder and mix. The end result should be something that looks like a wet paste.
- Alcohol tends to evaporate, and the same will happen with our powder. As soon as this happens, you should mix the resulting mixture thoroughly again, bringing it to a creamy consistency.
- You can shape the powder using the same plastic bag. You need to put it on top and smooth everything out thoroughly with your finger or spoon.
After this, you cannot close the lid. The powder needs to be allowed to “rest” and dry. It is better if it remains in this state overnight.
Warming up with an iron
For those who do not have time to wait for the alcohol to dissipate, you can use another popular restoration method. This is where a household electrical appliance that can be found in every home comes in handy - an iron. The action plan is as follows:
- We carefully take out what remains in the package, combine it with what fell out as a result of the impact, and grind it to a powder.
- Place a clean sheet of paper on a flat, hard surface. Pour what you get after grinding onto it. Place another sheet on top.
- Apply a heated iron for a few seconds. Repeat a couple of times.
- When the heated surface becomes smoother, move the powder to its original packaging.
It is important to consider that before heating the powder, the “Steam” mode must be turned off.
Using hydrogen peroxide or antiseptic
Only a 3% hydroperite solution is useful here. If the choice falls on a disinfectant, you should choose one that is colorless or odorless. Anything else can harm the skin and spoil the quality of the cosmetic product.
The recovery algorithm is similar to the first method, which used alcohol. The only difference is that the paste formed as a result of contact with peroxide or antiseptic will dry much faster. To even out the powder in the package, you will have to use a press.
