Full legs, it turns out, are not as scary as full knees. My life story is real, and I want to share my experiences in searching the right wardrobe for thick knees with sufferers like me.
A few words about me
I am 40 years old. And all my life I have been embarrassed by fat knees. My mother had the same build, something she inherited from her father and grandfather. The result of all this disgrace was me, or rather, my legs, which “received” all the shortcomings of both parental dynasties.
No, I don’t have a “pear”, all other parameters are normal. Sometimes your legs are a bit plump, but they are straight and it looks beautiful. I have a rather large “piece” protruding from the inside of my knee, which spoils the whole picture.
From the age of 14, I was intensely involved in sports, more precisely, running and squats. Which, unfortunately, did not bring the desired result. Yes, my thighs have become more toned, and the fat layer hanging in front of my knee has even been slightly pulled up. But It didn’t add aesthetics at all. Therefore, for half of my youth I “eked out” my fashionable existence in long hoodie skirts.
When I realized that nothing but plastic surgery would help me (and this was unrealistic for me), I decided to review my wardrobe and find clothes that would which would cope with my shortcoming as much as possible and make me at least indistinguishable from the outside. For each season, I came up with my own options that I want to share with women like me.
But first, some tips.
Recommendations for “full-knee” people
- Find your strengths. Yes, I know that there may be more than one drawback. For example, I have small breasts, a wide waist and full ankles. But all these details can also be played out beautifully with the help of properly selected clothes. And always highlight your strengths. Let them catch your eye and the shortcomings simply fade away against their background. For example, spin a hula hoop. A wasp waist is always valued much higher than anything else.
- Choose only high quality materials. Yes, it's not cheap. But you can't afford anything else. This is exactly the compensation that “covers up” the inability to buy something fashionable “right now!”
- Don't wear short clothes despite everything. Even if you decide to prove something to yourself, give up this idea.
- There are many different types of clothing that will reveal really beautiful areas of the body near the problem area. For example, the place under the knee. Choose a French length skirt - then it is the popliteal area that will be visible - it is narrow and perfectly slimming.
- Take care of your shins from a young age. As women age, they may develop bruises and persistent hematomas in the front. For example, I haven’t had it for several years now, and it’s probably going to last for the rest of my life. But the shin is exactly the place on the leg that we can show! In winter, of course, tights will help with camouflage, but in summer...
- Your choice - midi and floor length clothing. A mid-thigh skirt, unfortunately, is not our option.
- With a midi, wear only wedges or heels, even low ones. With a maxi, you can afford flat shoes.
What to wear with thick knees?
I divided seasonal clothes into several categories. In the summer I wear pants and long skirts with dresses. In winter - midi-length dresses and skirts with high boots. In the off-season you can get stuck, and on short hot-cold days I try to dress sporty.
That's probably all. Let's move on to the examples that I have selected for myself.
Summer wardrobe
Yes, in summer it can be unbearably hot in long clothes, but I’m already used to it. I choose staples, thin cotton, chiffon, knitwear. I immediately say “no” to cheap things, I mean low-quality material. In general, I’d rather buy something good at a second-hand store than Chinese junk, which is a dime a dozen here. But in a second-hand store you also need to choose. For example, I can only buy bottoms or shoes there, but tops and outerwear - I will never risk it.
A long cotton dress with gladiator sandals is my must-have. A long shirt looks great. By the way, if you have a tummy or a small bust, or a hump-withers is already “drawn”, I highly recommend this option. It is slimming, youthful, cool and you feel great in it. If you don't like stripes, try a solid color or a tiny print. Yes, yes, at age and in summer it is quite possible.
This is also a good everyday option.
And if your calves are beautiful, you can afford midi and low wedge sandals.
Or this:
A It is better to choose elegant but low shoes. No fancy rough platforms, protectors, chains or spikes. For example:
In the summer, I wonderfully “mastered” light trousers. For my knees a model like joggers or cargo without pockets on the sides fits perfectly, only loose cut and without any weighty additions at the bottom. The trousers taper gradually, but are loose around the hips and knees. By the way, I choose sweatpants using exactly the same principle.
I don’t recommend banana-type trousers with an extension at the bottom and a “sharp” cuff. Straight ones, pipes, carrots can be present in the wardrobe, but only after careful fitting and satisfaction with the result. But I’ll say right away that such models may not fit well in the shoe area due to the fact that the material will stretch unnaturally at the knees.
Pants are one thing that you should never buy on the Internet! Only with fitting, only hardcore.
I wear these cotton trousers with the same untucked shirt, blouse, and blouse. Here it is already necessary to “dance” based on the parameters of the waist and bust. But the main principle, I hope you understand.
2-3-4 pairs of trousers and a top for them, 2-3 long dresses, one midi - and my summer wardrobe is absolutely replete with fashionable, interesting clothes. For an evening look, I usually choose trousers, a smart blouse and flat mules. Well, everything is simple here - my husband is short, so I gave up heels for about 15 years now.
Do you want a skirt? It's the same principle. I don't really like them, I prefer dresses.
Winter wardrobe
In the cold, I choose sophistication and grace. This is where you can roam, by God! So, my favorite outerwear is always mid-calf-length down jacket or knee-length fur coat. Both items have a belt.
I wear a down jacket every day with a long turtleneck sweater, ankle boots with a small wedge heel and warm leggings. The latter are not visible under the top, so I feel quite free when walking to the store.
If I need to go somewhere further, for example, to school to blush for bad marks or to the clinic, I prefer a warm, curly pencil skirt, insulated plain golf socks, and high classic leather boots. And all this - with a down jacket, or maybe with a fur coat.
To the theater or on a visit - of course, a midi dress. I love minimalistic models made of high-quality dense knitwear, For example. Of course, with knee-high boots. The style I choose is a trapeze or a small flare. For those who have a fuller waist, you can choose a slightly higher line or a bat sleeve.
Important! Be sure to try on the dress. Don't buy on the Internet.
Off-season
In spring and autumn there is always a big problem of what to wear. Here in the south this time of year flies by quickly, so I usually wear a tracksuit with sneakers. I wrote above about choosing trousers. The only thing that needs to be added here is the cuff should not be too narrow, and the pants should be taperedso that there is no sharp transition, like bananas:
Better this way:
And I prefer a trowel that is slightly elongated and without a cuff at the bottom:
Of course, you can’t go everywhere in sportswear, so my meager autumn-spring wardrobe consists of a short fitted coat, a leather jacket just below the waist, a long checkered A-line skirt and black dress boots. Under outerwear - either a plain golf shirt, or a simple blouse-jumper without any frills.
Anyone who thinks that such a cage has already outlived its usefulness can replace it with a plain one. For example, I like the color dark chocolate or black.
In cold autumn or early spring, I can wear the same high boots, a winter dress and a fitted midi coat with an English collar.
And here I'm just obsessed with stoles and scarves. I have a lot of them, I really love adding them to my look. I prefer discreet, but expensive cashmere, pashmina, and among the colors - beige, gray, dark blue, burgundy. No small “cheap” prints. Probably, this is already a clinic of age...
What is the result?
Now no one I know has any idea what my shortcomings are. My husband is not aware of my problems at all; it seems that I know how to hide very well. Only at sea there is a slight stupor, but I wear long beach clothes and am not going to change this principle.
After I thought through my wardrobe, learned to turn away from fashionable clothes in the windows and switched to “expensive” classics, I felt like a real woman - loved, beautiful, desired. I understand that it depends more on my attitude towards myself, and not on those around me. Therefore, dear women, love yourself. Necessarily.
