How the stunning costumes were created for the new film “Cruella”

At the end of May, the screening of a new Disney masterpiece began - a film about the legendary villainess Cruella de Vil, who this time was played by Hollywood actress Emma Stone. The audience was delighted with the images of the main character of the film, which she changed with enviable consistency in the frame. And it's all thanks to Oscar-winning costume designer Jenny Bevan.

A bright exit with the mantle set on fire

In one of the scenes, Emma Stone's heroine, with a slight movement of her hand, sets fire to the white robe in which she appeared at the party and appears before the audience from the flashes of fire in a blood-red satin dress to the floor.

The prototype of the dress was the famous image of Tree, coined by Charles Jameson. It completely follows the contours, but is slightly modified in the décolleté area and fits the artist’s figure much more interestingly.

The iconic image of a rebel

The scene in which Cruella stands on the roof of the Baroness's car is marked by the young designer's original outfit. She is wearing a fluffy and very long pink skirt and a jacket with false shoulders, embroidered with carriages and horses.

Jenny Bevan said that this the jacket is a real work of art. Having found a suitable prototype, the master decided to remake it to fit the general concept of the film and modify it slightly.

The skirt was also a painstaking team effort. It was embroidered by hand with small petals, of which there were more than five thousand. It was important to make a voluminous but light outfit so that it would partially cover the body of the car and it would be easy for the actress to move around in it.

Baroness von Hellman's outfits

She is an unsurpassed designer and knows how to dress stylishly. But her images show more trends from the 50s and 60s of the last century. Strict dresses to mid-calf, voluminous hats, catchy makeup with clear lines and complex hairstyles with carefully styled curls.

The images for Emma Thompson's character were created in collaboration with costume designer Jane Lowe. The actress tried them on with great enthusiasm and created the right mood for choosing beautiful costumes.
