Is it possible to wear fashionable things after 50? What do I think about it

Once again, seeing my mother off last night, I started thinking... Why do women “over 50” dress so lifelessly? Why must clothes be grey, beige or “gray-brown-shabby”? In order not to “stand out from the crowd”? Or is it simply that manufacturers, focusing on the elderly, offer them only everything whitish, shapeless, colorless? Why should trousers be wide, a jacket “below the butt”, a hat with a lining?

Public opinion as a regulator of desires

I imagined myself at her age. Don't want! I want to be as flamboyant as I am now, wearing boyfriend shorts with a torn back and ugly sneakers... Is that too much to ask? But they might peck me.

«There, let's go, let's go! And where did she get so colorful? For fuck's sake, here we go!“- I once heard a conversation of grandmothers near the house, who, enviously stretching their arthritic knees, hurled offensive words at a thin 55-year-old woman from the next door with snow-white, even teeth. But they are practically the same age!

So Why does public opinion condemn such young grandmothers? Why can’t a retired woman afford to wear an unusual fashion item? A giant cluster of beads on a snow-white silk blouse, a red bomber jacket, and just long gray hair braided “in reverse”?

Why?

Why is youth style in the image of an older woman perceived with hostility? From the height of his age I see several reasons:

  1. Banal envy. The inability to start living contrary to the system and public opinion. For some reason, we look at those women who dress “tastefully” with condemnation. For example, a trouser suit and expensive shoes evoke a feeling of melancholy and hopelessness: “my life is ending, but she still lives.” Is not it?
  2. Lack of funds for fashionable clothes. This is already a forced measure of refusal. Not everyone can afford a pink T-shirt with a bright print, rhinestones, and decor for 1,500 rubles. And then the first reason emerges.
  3. Rejection imposed by public opinion. Unfortunately, all our lives we have been taught some kind of boundaries, and it is incredibly difficult to break out of the cage and onto the street. You need to be a very confident woman to step over the judgmental views of others and wear the clothes that you like and make you stand out.

Invisibility as a lifestyle

This colorless existence, the lack of romance and brilliance makes a person very old. Women who wear red lipstick and fashionable scarves until the end of their days age later, and they are also happier. There is only one reason here: self-realization, the opportunity to live as you like. Some completely dissolve in their work, others in their family, and others in their lifestyle. And if the latter works out successfully, isn’t this real happiness?

How can I try it? Details

To change your image no need to completely remodel your wardrobe. To get started, you need to purchase elements that will complement any image. Can be used:

Scarves

The bigger, the better. A variety of them - chiffon, staple, organza and other materials. For every season, even summer, you can find your own successful accessory. This will not only make you feel fashionable, but will also make your image recognizable. Grandmothers in the yard will definitely see you a mile away, no matter how much they complain about their poor eyesight and prices in stores.

Bags

A new one for each ensemble. In the summer you can go wild, because the variety of inexpensive textile or straw offers will satisfy any sophisticated fashionista. Try to choose solid colors. Small handbags make you look younger, while large ones give you a bright status.

Decorations

Don't be afraid of the big ones. You can stop, for example, on natural stones. Any beads - from amber and pearls to amethyst and agate - will be “glad” to be friends with your clothes. Stones refresh, attract, but do not make the image “cheap”. And in price comparison with expensive metals, they are generally doomed to success.

Glasses

You can “win” great with them. It’s definitely worth trying on a million options and find a frame that will make you look younger. Your arsenal should include both sun protection and vision protection. Try to buy not only classic metal, but also plastic, and, say, horn or leopard print.

Shoes

Here you can think about it. I don’t want to recommend heels, although, for example, my mother wore them until she was 50, then she admitted that it was difficult for her to walk in pumps. But you don’t need to wear sneakers for the rest of your life either. For each look, you should choose a pair that will be fashionable, interesting, comfortable and moderately catchy. And of course, from high-quality materials.

Without heel? Ballet flats, sneakers. With heels? Choose a small cube or tablet. And no “grandmother’s boots.” If your feet hurt, look, look for shoes that will be both beautiful and meet the required comfort. In the 21st century - and you can’t find it?

What to wear? Cloth

This is where things can get tricky. You don't have to wear a baby-doll dress, a pink velor tracksuit with ears, or ripped boyfriend jeans. Can with the choice of fabric to get closer to the “youth”. There are many universal things that will work! For example:

  • short oversized coat;
  • bomber jacket;
  • oversized sweater;
  • denim shirt;
  • cropped tapered trousers;
  • any long sleeve;
  • sweatshirt;
  • down jacket-blanket;
  • short or long fur coat.

And that's just what came to my mind. There is no need to talk about the variety of costumes at all. Both classic and not so classic will do.

Always denim can help. A simple jacket and simple mums are an excellent solution for any situation. Just try not to choose clothes with obvious holes, this is already a marginal “trick” and is not very suitable for our case.

You need to be a little more careful with dresses: for example, open neckline, revealing slits and rearAx is exactly what might suggest vulgarity.

Everyone come out of the darkness!

The fashion industry imposes its stereotypes. From TV screens, only long-legged models stride along the catwalk in beautiful stylish clothes, wear branded shoes, and put on expensive cosmetics. But you must understand that this is not only for them!

Any woman deserves the “high luxury” offered by those who, until old age, wear checkered scarves and a ponytail at the back of their heads.

Look at aging celebrities. Both here and in the West, they prefer to be beautiful rather than dress in faded, tasteless clothes. Know that you are just as worthy of living beautifully as they are!

Let the stars earn millions, but a chiffon scarf with lurex cost two bucks and will still cost.

Now forward to new things! I don’t know about you, but I’m taking my beloved mother to the nearest shopping center this weekend. At the very least, let's spend an unforgettable women's time together, called shopping. She will definitely be my most beautiful!
