How to make a doll mannequin with your own hands

Experts in various fields use mannequins. The imitation of the body on the stand became the emblem of the tailor. Children try to imitate adults in their games. My daughter wants to dress up her pet herself or hang the clothes beautifully in a toy house.

In modern interiors, designer dolls are used as prestigious and original decor. The outfit should fit the toy client perfectly. For this you need a mannequin. It can be made in various ways.

Cardboard mannequin for doll

An easy way to make beautiful mannequins is to hang clothes for a small Barbie-sized doll. Materials you will need:

  • cardboard;
  • hot glue;
  • acrylic paint;
  • wooden skewer for shish kebab;
  • cap from a plastic bottle;
  • doll.

The tool used is common, available in every home: pencil, scissors, awl and brush.

Place the doll without clothes on the cardboard and trace it: shoulders and sides from the arms to the middle of the thigh. Draw the spaces with smooth lines.The resulting contour is cut out, checked for symmetry and used as a template. Then the mannequin will be straight. The number of cardboard parts is even. It depends on the thickness of the cardboard. The stacked fragments, plus the thickness of the skewer, are approximately equal to the doll’s body when viewed from the side.

Divide the cardboard pieces in half and glue each stack along the contour. Then apply glue to the skewer and, placing it inside, connect the halves. Let the glue dry. Use scissors to trim any uneven edges to even out the shape.

The stand can be made from any plastic cork. Using an awl or thick sewing needle, a hole is made in the center. A skewer is inserted into it and secured with hot glue. The upper part can be decorated with a large bead.

Now it needs to be decorated. Acrylic paint is used for this. It does not contain harmful substances and is safe for children. The paint is applied in a thin layer several times.

After complete drying, decor is added to the stand. Beads, seed beads, and bows are used. It is difficult to sew a dress for a doll using such a mannequin.. This great hanger to demonstrate the outfits of your favorite toy.

Wax and plaster mannequins

At home, you can copy any shape using plaster and wax. The materials are easy to form and do not require special skills to work with them.

The method is suitable for a doll whose arms and head can be removed. The body is tightly wrapped with cling film. Gypsum is poured into the water and mixed. The composition should be like thick sour cream. Apply an even layer of plaster to the body, wrapped in film, and allow it to harden. For strength, it is advisable to use a bandage, alternating it with layers of solution. The plaster itself is fragile and will break quickly.

After 15 minutes, carefully cut the chain mail and remove the cast. The halves are tightly connected using a pharmaceutical plaster. Melted paraffin from a candle or wax is poured into the resulting mold. A skewer is inserted. After cooling, the plaster is removed. You can make several mannequins with one cast.

Doll mannequins

You can stick needles into a mannequin made of wax and adjust outfits exactly to your figure. Will last in that case he not for long. But I have experience in how to make doll figures and the plaster mold remains.

Manufacturing method from old puppeteers

Previously, puppet theater artists made their own heroes. They sculpted the head out of clay. Later they began to use plasticine. Then they tore the newspaper into small pieces. They soaked the paper in water and covered the figure with it. Then another 4–5 layers of paper were applied to the doll’s head, using paste - flour boiled in water.

After drying, the paper head was cut “behind the ears.” The halves of the mannequin were connected, stripes were glued on top and painted.

Making mannequins for dolls

Before making a puppet papier-mâché mannequin, the body is lubricated with face cream. Then the paper will come off easily.

You can make a doll mannequin in this way without disassembling them into parts. The internal void is filled with polyurethane foam. Given the large expansion of the material, you should only fill up to half. A skewer or other rod is immediately inserted. Once the foam has hardened, this is difficult to do.

It can also be painted or covered with fabric. Old tights and knee socks are good for this.

Sewn figure for a doll

To make it you need materials:

  • dense soft fabric;
  • holofiber;
  • cardboard;
  • rod and stand.

First, a pattern is made. The doll is traced lying on its back and sideways. Details are transferred to dense and soft fabric, for example thin drape, cashmere.It is advisable to place the elements along the fiber. Cut 2 at a time with seam allowance. They are located: front opposite the back, with sides between them.

After preliminary basting, you can put the seams up on the doll and fit it exactly to the figure. The sewn case is turned inside out and stuffed tightly with holofiber. You can buy it in a store or replace it with pieces of finely chopped padding polyester.

An oval is cut out of thick cardboard, equal to the volume of the figure’s hips and slightly larger from the drape. This is the straight bottom edge of the mannequin. A hole is made in the cardboard for the rod. Then everything is sewn or glued, if sewing is difficult, at the bottom. A stand is being made.

Ready-made doll mannequin

The advantage of a sewn mannequin for a doll is the ability to stick needles into it. It follows the shape of the model and looks like the real thing. The outfits created with its help fit perfectly. The disadvantage is the complexity of manufacturing for small dolls. It is difficult to work with small elements; skills are required.
