Spandbond

Spandbond is a non-woven synthetic material, the raw materials for which are various polymers. This material does not look particularly luxurious, but it is not valued for its appearance. Spandbond is used in agriculture (covering materials made from it are especially popular among farmers). In addition, this synthetic fiber is actively used as waterproofing of surfaces in construction and in the manufacture of orthopedic mattresses, covers, linings for bags and suitcases.

Story

Spandbond, like many other synthetic materials, appeared in the twentieth century. At that time, the chemical industry was developing especially actively, and therefore new types of artificial fibers were invented quite often. The active use of this material also began in the last century.

Peculiarities

The spunbond production process is fully automated. First, the fiber-forming polymer is melted, then it is passed through dies - metal plates with holes. As a result of this process, polymer threads are formed, which are cooled and placed on a special conveyor moving at different speeds. Thanks to this, the threads are compacted and turned into a single fabric.

Next, the almost finished spunbond is fastened in different ways:

Spandbond is an interesting material. First of all, its properties deserve attention:

  1. Low electrical conductivity.
  2. Strength. This material is difficult to tear by mechanically acting on it.
  3. Water resistance. The higher the density of the finished canvas, the less it absorbs moisture (water literally “flies” from it in drops).
  4. Withstands any temperature. Spandbond does not deform both at -50 and at +130 degrees.
  5. Durability. This material can be used for a long period (for example, the covering fabric will protect the plantings for more than one season).
  6. Does not require any complex care.
  7. No toxic substances are formed on the surface of the material, even with prolonged negative impact of environmental factors. In addition, spandbond will not begin to rot or become moldy if left in a room with a high level of humidity.
  8. Breathability. That is why it is used in the production of disposable clothing - in such a medical gown the skin will “breathe”.

So, spunbond is indispensable in different areas of our lives. They make not only medical gowns, but also masks, bandages, and disposable diapers. Products made from spunbond are actively used in hospitals, beauty salons, medical and scientific laboratories. In addition, it is the main material in the production of napkins, feminine hygiene products, and diapers.

But it is most actively used, as noted above, in agriculture. Spandbond is deservedly called agrofibre. With its help, gardeners protect and mulch plants and reduce the frequency of watering. As a rule, for such purposes, spunbond is sold in rolls, and the colors do not differ in variety - a choice of black or white fiber is offered.
