Cleats are specialized footwear for playing football on a variety of surfaces. Studded boots can be used to play on a natural field, while flat-soled shoes (futsal) are great for playing indoors on a flat surface.
When choosing and purchasing shoes for playing football, you need to pay attention not only to the texture of the sole, but also to choose the right size so that during and after training your feet are in the correct position and do not get pinched or loose.
How to determine your football boot size?
In order to choose comfortable boots, you can use a proven method. It is especially important to apply it if you order shoes from an online store. For this:
- take a sheet of plain paper, place it on a flat floor surface near the wall and stand with your feet on top, resting your heels against the wall;
- Use a pen to mark the point of your foot farthest from the wall (usually above your big toe);
- take a ruler and measure the resulting distance. The length in centimeters is your shoe size.
There are several important rules to follow when measuring your feet or trying on shoes:
- in the evening, the foot enlarges due to the fact that you spent the whole day on your feet, and the blood was actively circulating. Take measurements in the evening;
- Try on the socks in which you plan to wear the boots. At least follow their approximate thickness;
- All people are asymmetrical, so our feet are often different pancakes. Buy boots that fit your larger feet.
Dimension rules
Once you have decided on the length of your feet, you can start choosing boots. The most famous brands that produce football shoes are Nike and Adidas. The sizing charts of these companies do not match according to some designations, so when purchasing, it is important to carefully look at the characteristics. Adidas size chart:
The sizes of football boots are indicated in several versions: in centimeters, American (US), English (US) and European (EURO) designations. For example, if your foot length is 26 cm, then this corresponds to US size 8, UK size 7.5 and European size 41. When purchasing, do not confuse US and UK designations.
If your foot length is 25.4 cm, then round up to a larger value - 26 cm. Sometimes manufacturers produce half sizes, then the choice is easier.

What else should you pay attention to when buying boots?
When choosing football shoes, in addition to the size and type of sole, pay attention to the material from which it is made:
- Genuine leather perfectly allows air to pass through, takes the shape of the leg, but wears out quite quickly. Give preference to calfskin and kangaroo leather (very rare now);
- faux leather is popular among juniors and amateurs. It does not deform, does not get wet;
- polyurethane is a synthetic material, inexpensive, but does not “breathe” well;
- flynit. Outwardly similar to knitted jersey with different densities in places with different degrees of load. Ideally breathable, light and flexible.
How to determine that the size is chosen correctly?
With the right shoes, there should be no feeling of excessive tightness.. Boots made from natural materials such as kangaroo leather, as well as from flynite, can fit tightly to the foot, but over time they will come apart, and the foot will feel comfortable, as if it were just being worn.
Tie your shoelaces at your own discretion and do active movements: run, squat, try a couple of exercises with a ball. If you do not feel strong pressure or, conversely, excessive weakness and dangling of your feet, then you have chosen the right size of football boots.
