Any, even high-quality, sturdy shoes become unusable over time under the influence of moisture, dirt and reagents. During wear, the sole is subjected to the greatest load; most often this element is the reason for going to the shoe workshop. But is it always necessary to contact a specialist, or can some repair work be done independently without overpaying? You can glue the sole yourself. The durability of such repairs will largely depend on the preparation of the gluing site and the quality of the selected glue.
Features of degreasing shoes before gluing
Degreasing is a rather important moment. The quality of its implementation will largely determine the outcome of the work done. The better the gluing surfaces are degreased, the more reliable the gluing area will be.
The modern market is replete with a variety of adhesives, which, according to manufacturers, do not require preparation of elements before gluing. This may be true, but processing the parts will not be superfluous; it will make the connection even more reliable and durable.
Before sealing shoes or sneakers, they should be properly prepared for this process. Preparation for gluing will include:
- high-quality washing using soap or detergents and a brush;
- rinsing;
- drying at room temperature.
Important! Before degreasing and gluing, you must make sure that the shoes are completely dry. Wet surfaces do not adhere well, and such a connection will not last long.
In the process of preparing the bonding surface, it is better to clean it with fine-grained sandpaper. This will ensure maximum gluing success.
How to degrease shoes before gluing
To degrease the surfaces to be bonded you will need only 2 components:
- cotton pads or other fabric for surface treatment;
- degreasing agent.
Suitable products for degreasing include acetone, white spirit, gasoline, nail polish remover, alcohol, vodka, and various solvents. The selected product is applied to a cotton pad. The bonding surfaces are carefully treated with this cotton pad.
The degreasing process will allow you to better clean surfaces from fatty films and other contaminants that prevent a reliable adhesive connection.
After treating the surfaces, it is necessary to keep the shoes at room temperature for 10 - 15 minutes until the solution has completely evaporated.
Now you can start gluing the shoe elements. With proper preparation and choice of glue, shoes can last for many more seasons!
