Suede shoes always look very attractive. This type of shoe is chosen by people with a subtle sense of style and original taste. However, some are still afraid to purchase shoes or boots made of suede, since it is generally known that this is a very capricious material that requires constant care.
Experts advise not to deny yourself the pleasure of wearing a beautiful thing by studying the basic rules for caring for suede shoes. In particular, suede boots need to be dried properly so that the material does not lose its elasticity and softness.
How can you dry suede shoes?
Suede boots or shoes can be dried with various available materials, but the main rule of drying should be the use of natural ventilation. The use of fan heaters, radiators and other electrical appliances is not allowed. They will make the suede rough and hard.
The most common drying agents are:
- salt (the product must be thoroughly heated in a frying pan, and then placed in a nylon sock, carefully tied and placed in each shoe in such a package; if the pair is too wet, the salt must be heated again periodically);
- soda (similar to the first method, pour it into a nylon sock, soda powder very quickly absorbs excess moisture);
- rice (rice groats are poured into a spacious box and boots are placed there, with their soles facing up, after a few hours you can see the result, the boots will be completely dry);
- old newspapers (each shoe should be tightly stuffed with newsprint; you can wrap the sheets around the top of the boots; it will take no more than one night to dry completely);
- cat litter (silica gel, which is contained in the fillers, quickly absorbs excess moisture, leaving the shoes dry and clean; the filler is placed in the shoe in the sock).
Important! The main point is self-drying, without the use of heating elements and warm air. Otherwise, the quality of the shoes will noticeably deteriorate.
It is possible to use various special devices, which are widely available in electronics stores today. It is also quite acceptable to use a hairdryer or an electric fan, but only on cold air mode.
Universal ways to quickly dry shoes
If the pair is a one-off, extreme drying of the boots may be required in order to soon go outside in them again. To do this, various methods are used to ensure accelerated drying:
- hair dryer (you can use this electrical appliance, as it gives a good result, but it should only be used in cold air mode, slowly blowing the surface and inside of the shoe);
- electric fan (installs a pair directly opposite the air flow, resulting in express drying at almost room temperature);
- electric dryers (special devices that emit a little heat and help quickly dry shoes without damaging the adhesive layer and the characteristics of the model).
Important! After purchasing suede shoes, it is better to get special impregnations that protect the pair from getting wet. But experts also do not recommend wearing such shoes in rainy and damp weather to avoid getting too wet.
Happy owners of “warm” floors in their apartments can use this method to get rid of dampness in their shoes. But it is still worth remembering that this is also a heating element that can ruin fashionable shoes. It is better to avoid getting wet and take proper care of your favorite boots or shoes.
Rules for drying suede boots in winter
Suede does not like open exposure to moisture, so you should not clean it with a stream of water, and also do not wear boots in wet weather. To properly and efficiently dry suede boots, you need to have an idea of the basic rules for drying such a model:
- the total drying time should not be less than 20 hours (this is the period required for complete drying with natural ventilation, so it is better to have several pairs of shoes per change);
- Suede shoes should be dried away from heating appliances (radiators and batteries are undesirable for suede shoes);
- the air in the room where the shoes are dried should not be humid (this will increase the drying time);
- the room should be well ventilated without direct sunlight (any aggressive influence, including ultraviolet light, will lead to loss of the boots’ presentation);
- shoes are dried outside and inside (newspaper, filler, salt and other means are used for internal filling so that the moisture leaves faster);
- use a hair dryer only as a last resort (if force majeure circumstances arise and the shoes need to be dried as quickly as possible, but at the same time turn on the hair dryer at the lowest power and keep it at a distance of at least 15 cm from the pair).
In order for suede shoes to retain their beauty and quality characteristics for a long time, they need proper daily care. To do this, you need to use special impregnations and agents that protect against dirt, cleaning brushes, and promptly dry the steam with natural ventilation. Do not expose to direct heat source.
