Lacing options vary depending on how many rows of holes the shoe has. Some methods can be used on different numbers of holes, and some can only be used on a certain number.

This number of holes for lacing is usually typical for light summer boots and sneakers, lacing with 4 rows of holes performs a decorative function rather than holding the foot tightly, for example, as is necessary for sports. However, there are many cool ways to give your shoes a makeover.

“Traditional Cross”

This method is traditional and familiar to many since childhood. But with a small number of holes, it looks very neat and will suit different shoe styles. To complete it you need:

• insert the lace into the first holes from the wrong side outwards. Many people start the other way around - from the outside in, this is not fundamentally important, it’s just that the crosses will go in a different sequence;
• cross the free ends and pass from the inside out;
• repeat the steps two more times to get to the fourth pair of rings. Tie a knot or bow.

“Straight” lacing

It looks very minimalist and this attracts the attention of both fashionable youth and business men and women. Externally, this lacing beautifully lengthens the leg. It's done quite simply:

• we pass the lace into the lower rings from top to bottom so that the horizontal line is on the outside;
• on one side we leave the end shorter and thread it directly into the top hole on the same side;
• We thread the second end, which is approximately twice as long, through all the holes so that only the horizontal lines on the outside are visible.

This lacing is complicated only because it is difficult to guess the length of the ends so that in the end they turn out equal. But this can only be learned through experience.

These methods are also suitable for shoes with a large number of holes, only for simple straight lacing you need an even number.

Lace up sneakers with 5 holes

There are several types of lacing.

"Saw"

For this variation you need to prepare one lace for each shoe.To begin, insert it into the lower holes so that the line is on the outside and the ends themselves are on the inside. Then thread one end (for convenience, the right one) into the ring above it (also on the right), and thread the left end into the third ring on the right (above the one into which the right lace is inserted).

Next, pull both ties horizontally into the left rings at the same level. Continue lacing the shoe until the very end. As a result, only horizontal stripes should appear on the outside, and horizontal segments should be visible underneath them from the inside.

“Snake”

In this version there will be no crossovers, all lacing will be done in one continuous linelike a snake:

1. Insert the lace into the lower left hole from the inside to the outside. Stretch the end that remains inside up to the tongue and leave it there.
2. The second tip will resemble a wavy snake. Pass it through the first hole at the same level, and then into the one above it.

Shoes with 6 holes are the most commonly produced and purchased. It can be used to perform almost any lacing technique. Let's look at some of them.

“Store knitting”

To reproduce it, insert the lace into the first holes from the bottom from the inside, so that the ends are on the wrong side. After this, insert the ends into the second pair of rings, each on its own side.

"Butterfly"

Perfect for short laces, it looks minimalistic and unusual, and does not have many unnecessary weaves. It will not be difficult for you to perform a series of sequential actions:

• pass the lace through the lower holes with the ends inward;

• now cross the laces and insert them into the next rings;
• then repeat the space and the cross again, at the end bring the ties inside out. You should get two crosses - “butterflies”.

Lace up sneakers with 7 holes

For this shoe option, you can use lacing methods for any other number of odd holes, for example, for five. But it is on sports shoes with 7 rings that some types, for example, “for racers,” will look interesting.

“For racers”

Take long enough laces. Don't worry, the ends won't be too big. This method was invented precisely so that the laces do not get in the way, do not come undone and keep the foot firmly in the sneaker.. With this lacing, the foot fits so tightly that it can even be quite difficult to get it out. The technique is as follows:

• Pass one end of the lace from the inside up in the lower left corner, and thread the other into the upper right hole. There should be a diagonal line inside the sneaker;
• Now you need to draw each end to the center. This should be done with zigzag stitches until the middle pair of holes;
• After the work is done, tie a knot. The peculiarity of this method is that the bow will not be on top, but in the middle of the shoe. A good option for those who like to experiment with style.

Original lacing options for sneakers

In addition to quite ordinary types of lacing, there are many original options that will definitely make you stand out from the crowd and will not leave your new sneakers unnoticed.

"Lattice"

Not too complex, but effective weave. The most convenient option is to recreate it on shoes with 6-8 pairs of holes. For this:

• Insert the laces from the inside into the first holes;
• carefully cross and thread from the outside into the fourth pair of holes;
• Next, start with one end: insert it into the second hole from the inside on the same side, and then thread it into the fifth hole from the outside on the other side;
• pull the same end into hole 3 on the same side and then into hole 6 on the opposite side;
• Carry out all the same actions in the same way with the other end.

"Chess board"

For this cool way you you will need two pairs of laces of different colors. This lacing looks interesting on plain sneakers, skater sneakers, and simply on lovers of extraordinary items and decorative elements in their wardrobe.

Execution steps:

• to begin with, use the first color lace to perform regular straight lacing (its technique has already been described above);
• take the second lace and, starting from the bottom, draw it to the top through all the horizontal lines, alternately above and below them;
• after reaching the top, wrap the top line and repeat the downward movement;
• repeat weaving in this way until the width of the space runs out;
• Tie the ends of the laces from the inside so that only a smooth checkerboard surface remains on the outside.

This technique is best performed using flat laces to create the effect of a real chessboard.

“Knotted” lacing

Its peculiarity is that There is an additional knot at each cross of the laces, which prevents the lacing from untying and loosening. It is suitable not only for ordinary shoes, but also for sports equipment such as roller skates or skates, ski shoes.

Technique:

• insert the ends of the lace onto the front side;
• make a cross and tie a simple knot;
• insert the loose ends into the next pair of holes;
• repeat crosses with knots all the way to the top. Always insert laces from bottom to top.

"Lightning"

Another very strong lacing that looks like a regular zipper with teeth on a jacket. It looks beautiful and unusual, it can be used on various types of sports shoes. Follow these steps:

• insert the lace into the holes and bring it out;
• wrap the loose ends over the stitch at the same level, and then thread them into the next pair of holes;
• cross the ends, pass them under the stitches of the second level and lift them even higher;
• Repeat these steps as many times as necessary to completely lace the boot.

How to lace Nikes?

Nike sneakers are one of the most purchased sneakers in the world. Their distinctive feature is not only the tick as a symbol, but also high-quality wide or thick laces. To lace them, you can use any of the above traditional or original methods. Follow a few rules:

1. if the sneakers themselves are quite simple, do not have a large number of accessories, color combinations or bright prints, then you can diversify them with original braided lacing (for example, Nike men's classic skater sneakers);
2. Some models are quite self-sufficient in themselves, so you shouldn’t complement them with too unusual lacing. One of the classic, minimalist options will be enough (for example, Nike Air Max often comes in the brightest and most eye-catching colors).

Lace-up without tying

Everyone imagines how lazy it is sometimes to just bend over and tie your shoelaces. Some people have a completely different problem - a strong knot constantly unties, no matter how hard you tighten it. You can find a way out: buy shoes without laces, learn how to tie strong knots. However, in the modern world, a new lacing method has been invented without tying at all.

Use silicone laces. Yes, yes, they exist. They are elastic bands about 4 cm long, at the ends of which there are small fasteners and hooks for fastening.

In sets they come in both the same color and multi-colored, and they can be placed not only horizontally, but also creating interesting patterns.
