Boxy shoes have ruled the runways for the past few seasons and collections, but for 2023, designers are sharpening their toes and experimenting with '80s-inspired silhouettes.
Feel like a ballerina
Thanks to Miu Miu and The Row, ballet flats became one of the biggest shoe trends of last year. If you've already invested in them, you'll be pleased to know that they're here to stay in 2023, in both satin and velvet fabrics.
Crystal heel
Glittering bags have been all the rage this season, and the sparkling trend is carrying over into 2023 in the form of footwear. Shoes with rhinestones and crystals, from stilettos to the boldest ankle boots, were the main theme on the most fashionable catwalks.
The right straps
From knee-high boots at Givenchy to Ghillie-style stilettos at Jason Wu, the footwear got its own unique lace-up corset shape for spring. Sexy, but at the same time not provocative, I imagine these shoes paired with sheer dresses or a fashionable knee-length skirt.
Bumper boots
Last year's bumper boots look tame compared to the 2023 models. The soles are bigger, the buckles are bulkier, and the attitude is off the charts. The market still has some catching up to do, but for now these boots are a great option.
Peep stops
If you've been putting off getting a pedicure since fall, this shoe trend might convince you to hit the salon. Pip-stops have appeared in unusual forms across the design spectrum, with everyone from ACNE Studios to Victoria Beckham putting their models' toes on display.
Reflect the colors of the season
Shades of gold and silver are common during the winter months when party season is in full swing. The party continues in 2023 with an array of sparkly, slightly metallic shoes in sweet shades.
Modern Mary Janes
Mary Jane heels may be one of winter's biggest trends, but you can be sure they're here to stay in 2023. Chunkier than past iterations of the classic style, with details like buckles and platform soles, you can't go wrong—Mary Janes feel more relevant than ever.
Low-heeled knee-high boots
Just as skirt hems are said to rise and fall with stock prices, certain boot lengths are favored over others depending on the mood of each season.
Good-looking boots never go out of style, but as we get excited about upcoming trends at the start of the new year, our shoe preferences follow suit. Not as low as ankle boots, but not as high as their over-the-knee counterparts, knee-high boots are the perfect in-between option, no matter the color, fabric or heel.
Any shoes in Magenta color
Pantone has announced Viva Magenta as the official color of the year 2023, which means a magical melange of raspberry red, hot pink, fuchsia, crimson and burgundy will enter our closets as one bright, bold shade. There's no wrong way to wear this mood-boosting hue, which can add an extra boost to everything from sneakers to hats to heels.
