What do Turkish moccasins look like?
It is generally accepted that we owe the appearance of moccasins in our wardrobe to the North American Indians. However, many peoples in ancient times had shoes of a similar cut, including the Ottoman Empire. Turkish moccasins were sewn as one single piece, wrapped around the foot, connected by a narrow long tongue. The skin from the sides was gathered around the upper part and fastened to it with a wrinkled seam. The nose was quite long and curved upward; it indicated the welfare of the owner.
Modern models use a more advanced cut than in ancient times, but the ancient style is taken as the basis. Of course, they do not have curved noses, but the upper part is quite long and narrow.There are two decorative seams on the heel on both sides of the heel, and a small flap is stitched around the foot. The sole is either solid or cast in rectangular fragments, slightly higher in the heel area.
How are they different from other models?
Only some models have a decorative lace around the foot; others have a bridle on the top. However, the overwhelming majority of Turkish moccasins have a completely smooth tongue, devoid of any decoration. It is long and narrow, but it only seems so, because the top part is connected to the side with a double convex seam that covers the fastening points. In fact moccasins have different thicknesses, suitable for shoe sizes of residents of our country.
