Suede shoes are always a trendy item in any wardrobe. At all times, suede shoes and boots were considered a real luxury. However, along with its beautiful appearance and good properties, suede is very difficult to care for, which forces some fashionistas to refuse such a purchase.
Can suede shoes be washed with water?
One of the basic rules that you should remember when purchasing suede shoes is the fact that such a model cannot be washed in soap and water. This is explained by the fact that under running water the soft material will become much harder and the beautiful texture will be spoiled.
Important! Products made from dyed suede may lose color or stain other items, completely losing their appearance.
To carefully wash the product, you must:
- dilute a weak soap solution (for this use mild liquid soap and plain water);
- Apply pointwise to the surface of the shoe (it is better to do this with a sponge or soft cloth, carefully wiping away any dirt);
- wash off the mixture (wash off the composition with a soft cloth soaked in clean water, the cloth should be wrung out well).
However, such washing should only be done in cases of heavy soiling. Simple dust or pet hair can be removed by using a sticky roller or regular adhesive tape.
Can soap be used to wash suede?
Soap is also a fairly aggressive product for soft and easy-to-care suede. It should not be used to wash such shoes, otherwise the suede will become hard and lose its shine.
In rare cases, it is allowed to use a weak soap solution, but this should only be done with liquid soap. Cleaning is carried out carefully, immediately washing off the composition with a soft, clean cloth soaked in water. You can use a special rubber brush, which, after the cleaning procedure, will return the pile to its previous position by carefully combing it.
Recommendations for caring for suede shoes
Experts advise not to give up such beautiful and attractive shoes just because they are not always practical and require special care. In rainy weather, it is recommended to leave suede boots at home, as moisture negatively affects their appearance. However, if there is no alternative, and the shoes you are wearing are wet in the rain or sleet, when you come home, you need to fill each shoe with crumpled newspapers and dry them thoroughly. If this is not done, unsightly white streaks will remain.
If necessary, starch, talc or other bulk product will help to clean greasy stains on the shoe. They should be applied to the stain and allowed to sit for at least 6 hours. Then the bulk material is shaken off and the suede is cleaned with a special brush.
Important! This way, only fresh stains on shoes can be removed. Old pollution can hardly be effectively cleaned using folk or modern means. You can try ammonia diluted in water, but no one will give any guarantees.
To ensure that suede shoes always look great and do not have to be cleaned with various aggressive substances, with the risk of ruining the surface of a fashionable shoe, you need to follow a number of simple recommendations:
- before going outside, apply water-repellent cream or spray (the modern shoe industry provides a huge number of options for such substances);
- use an eraser (easy removal of a newly planted stain is ensured by using a special eraser for suede shoes, which can be purchased at shoe stores);
- cleaning with special means can only begin after drying the product (shoes cannot be dried on a radiator or heaters, only drying under natural conditions is allowed; crumpled newspapers must first be placed inside).
Important! Heating devices negatively affect the condition of suede. It becomes rougher and more unyielding, the boots lose their outer luster and look unsightly.
Before using any new cleaning product, you should try it on only a small area of the boot first. If no negative consequences are noticed, you can continue to put the couple in order.
