Modern automatic machines provide the ability to wash not only clothes and linen, but also shoes. This allows you to clean it of dirt and remove unpleasant odors. However, this process requires certain rules to be followed in order for everything to go smoothly. We will tell you in what order you should proceed when washing shoes in a machine.
Machine washable shoes
Not all shoes are machine washable.
Washable
In particular, you can safely try to do this with the following products:
- sports sneakers, firmly stitched or glued;
- high-quality sneakers made of fabric;
- moccasins, ugg boots, textile ballet shoes;
- house slippers;
- sandals and flip flops.
Important! Lightweight textile models with well-glued soles are most suitable for machine washing.
Can't wash
You shouldn't even try to put these types of shoes in the machine.
- With fur insulation. The fur will become bald or matted, which will affect performance.
- Membrane: It will immediately deteriorate when exposed to moisture.
- Leather, including fake leather. The material may deteriorate and become deformed.
- Suede. It will quickly become unusable, and all that remains is to take it for scrap.
- With decor (embroidery, rhinestones, ribbons, prints). Even if it goes through washing, it may come off. In addition, fallen off elements can break the machine.
Reference! Shoes that are torn or unstuck, or of poor quality, will not be suitable for the machine. It will fall apart immediately in the washing machine.
Rules for washing shoes in a machine
Preparing shoes
Before you put your shoes in the drum, do the following:
- Remove laces and insoles. They can be cleaned by hand or also put in the machine.
- In case of heavy contamination, remove any stuck lumps, shake out the sand, clean with a brush all pebbles stuck to the sole, etc. If this is not done, debris may clog the machine.
- If dirt has become embedded in the fabric, rub it with laundry soap or soak it briefly in warm water and detergent.
- Place the pair in a special bag. It will protect the drum from strong impacts. If you don't have such a bag, wrap the pair in a pillowcase or some rag.
Do not put more than two pairs in the machine at the same time. This will not only reduce the quality of the wash, but can also seriously damage the washing machine.
Attention! Do not put shoes in the machine without a special bag. This creates a strong load under the influence of rotation, which is fraught with damage to both the product itself and household appliances.
Choice of product
It is better not to use ordinary powder for such a responsible process. In delicate mode, the granules may not dissolve well. It is preferable to use a special liquid washing powder. It is easier to rinse and does not leave streaks. 50 g of product is quite enough. If the product is white, you can add a little bleach.
Important! Liquid soap, hair, body or dishwashing detergent is not suitable for machine washing. They foam a lot and are therefore contraindicated.
Washing procedure
Many machines have special program for shoes. If it is, turn it on. It has the optimal options for processing things of this kind.
If there is none, follow the following recommendations.
- Install temperature 30–40 degrees. This will protect the shoes from exposure to hot water, and will also prevent the thermoelement from forming scale.
- Add a rinse, or better yet, a double rinse.. Otherwise, streaks may appear on the product, and it will have to be washed again.
- Disable the spin function. Strong rotation may damage the product. Or a heavy sole will damage the drum or door glass. It is enough to leave the water draining.
- Do not use dry mode (if available). Hot air may cause shoes to lose their original appearance.
Now all that remains is to start the wash and wait for the program to finish.
Reference. When washing shoes, the machine makes a louder noise than usual. Don't be surprised, this is normal.
How to dry washed shoes
The drying process is no less important than washing. If the product is not dried correctly, it can become hopelessly damaged.
- Do not dry your shoes under the influence of heat: forget about the dryer, radiator and sun. It will hurt her. It may lose its shape or, which is really bad, fall apart.
- Before drying your shoes, stuff them with paper (not newspaper, as this can leave stains). This will protect them from losing their shape.
- Dry at normal temperature.A suitable place is a dark room, neither hot nor cold.
- After the pair dries, lubricate it with a special water-repellent impregnation. It can be purchased at hardware stores. Outwardly, it looks like a spray that is sprayed onto a dry product.
- Once completely dry, insert the laces and clean insoles.
Important! You should not wash your shoes too often as this will shorten their lifespan. The maximum number of treatments is 1–2 times a month.
If after washing the shoes are not completely washed or there is an unpleasant odor, do not repeat the procedure. It would be too much of a burden for her. Try removing stains by hand using a stain remover. And treating with vinegar will help remove the aroma. Wipe the inner surface of the product with a cotton swab dipped in essence.
As you can see, if you follow all the rules, the process will not cause you any trouble. But it will allow you to flaunt down the street in clean sneakers and sneakers.
