Moccasins have come a long way from North American Indians to American fashionistas, and then gained a foothold among Italian drivers. For some time, interest in them faded, but since the 70s of the last century, moccasins have become a favorite type of footwear among men, women and children.
The history of shoes and their classic appearance
Among the Indians, such shoes were made from rawhide. They were very soft, silent and had virtually no reinforcement on the sole. This was beneficial for the Indians in hunting, but modern people did not appreciate such sensitivity to every pebble.
American Philip Miller in the 40s released a collection of moccasins reflecting the traditions of the Indians. They were made of soft leather and decorated with fringe. Miller strengthened the sole and made these shoes comfortable for everyday wear.
Moccasins came to Europe in 1963 thanks to Gianni Mostila. He released men's moccasins that had rubberized soles with knobs. This type of shoe has become popular among Italian drivers due to the comfortable grip between the shoes and the car pedals. After this, moccasins were considered car shoes for a long time, but by the 2000s, more and more popular people began to appear in them outside of their cars.
Modern moccasin shoes are made of soft leather with thick rubber soles. They do not have fasteners, zippers or lacing. Fringe or decorative lacing is used as decoration. The sole is traditionally flat, but there are models with grooved or small stable heels.
What moccasins go with and what they don’t
Moccasins are casual style shoes in the summer or spring season.. They will suit any everyday look. It is considered a serious mistake to wear them under a business suit, sweatpants, or together with outerwear.
These shoes imply relaxation and informality. For men, he recommends combining moccasins with linen trousers, shorts, chinos, and wearing blazers, polos or T-shirts on top. Men can combine bright models with trousers and a jacket. But provided that the whole look turns out to be slightly relaxed, for these cases it is better to choose a jacket in contrast to the trousers, and complement the bright color of the shoes with a T-shirt.
For girls, moccasins go well with tennis dresses, light chiffon skirts, loose shorts with pintucks or cropped culottes.
Both men and women should not buy black models. This shoe has an interesting history and completely loses its charm in black. If you don’t risk buying bright models, it’s better to stick to beige, brown or gray tones. Moccasins that combine 2-3 natural colors look stylish.
With or without socks
The Indians themselves could not even think of wearing moccasins with socks. They invented them for hunting in the warm season and did not require an additional layer of clothing.
Moccasins are still summer shoes, so they don't require socks. Some men or girls explain their reluctance to part with hosiery by hygiene.
To avoid unpleasant odor, sweat and chafing on your feet, just reconsider your choice. It is better to buy moccasins made from genuine leather. Since these shoes are used in summer, feet sweat more and the artificial leather cannot provide sufficient air circulation.
The sole is also important. It should be soft, with small perforations made of leather or other natural materials.
As a last resort, stores sell special sprays and deodorants for feet. They reduce foot odor and sweating. But sometimes it is easier to solve such a problem by going to the doctor.
Moccasins can be worn with socks in the following cases:
- Short heels that are not visible beyond the top of the shoe. This option is suitable for those who are not ready to give up socks.
- Socks or socks made of nylon. But in color they should be as close as possible to the color of the skin. You can wear nylon socks only under trousers and on the condition that even in a sitting position the border between the skin and the socks is not visible.
- When creating a shocking image. Bright fashionistas and fashionistas often violate other rules of etiquette in clothing, combining textures, colors and wardrobe items. Such images are not suitable for going to work, but if you want to surprise the audience in an unusual way, then why not.
The popularity of moccasins does not surprise anyone. These are soft and comfortable shoes for walking and meeting with friends. But stylists do not recommend using this type of shoe as the main one in your wardrobe.
