Sometimes there is no point in taking your boots for repairs and completely replacing the zipper - it just fastens tightly, the “pawl” stops and you get the impression that applying force can only ruin the zipper. This is possible even with new shoes.
Why do they lubricate?
There are ways to make the dog move easier. The movement of any fastening elements that cause friction (for example, door hinge parts) becomes softer or smoother if there is a layer of lubricant between the rubbing parts. The zipper consists of two strips, each of which has teeth that fit into each other. The latter can be made of plastic or metal. The links are connected and separated by the movement of a special slider (pawl fastener). The design of the teeth and the way they are connected may vary. The lubricant is selected taking into account the type of zipper.
Types: metal, tractor, twisted (“twist”)
What to lubricate
Any substance that facilitates sliding will do. Lubrication options for plastic fasteners:
- Candle or paraffin.
- Laundry soap.
IMPORTANT.Rub the zipper with lubricant when it is closed, then run the slider along the fastener several times so that the lubricant is better distributed.
Suitable for metal zippers:
- Soft lead made from a simple pencil. You should choose the maximum softness. The stylus is simply rubbed on the closed teeth.
- Solid vegetable fat, such as lard. But this method is only suitable for leather clothes. However, you can lubricate the zipper very carefully without touching the fabric.
- Camphor. Apply with a thin brush to the teeth. You can take a cotton swab.
You can’t lubricate the entire zipper, but only the area that raises doubts. Carefully inspect the entire length of the clasp. Perhaps lubrication is not needed, for example, there is a foreign object between the teeth (fabric or fur fibers, pieces, grass or leaves), or one tooth has become unusable or has become loose - in this case, it is necessary to clean and repair them.
How to lubricate a zipper coil? This fastener has teeth that are quite small and well closed; it is difficult to lubricate them with hard soap or a candle. Any silicone-based lubricant will work. There are special ready-made liquids for cleaning and lubricating zippers on sale. They are universal, suitable for any type of zippers (plastic, nylon, metal). Equipped with special applicator brushes, designed for the care of clothing for sports or active recreation.
