How to crochet slippers

Feet must be kept warm. Cold weather is just around the corner, so this folk wisdom becomes more relevant every day. The likelihood that the “Indian summer” will last until heating is supplied to apartments in my region is negligible. This means that I will have to think about home “equipment” for this period. First of all, about comfortable, warm, but breathable shoes.
The ideal option, in my opinion, is slippers made of soft but thick wool, in which your feet will neither freeze nor sweat.

To work, I needed a hook, yarn, hard insoles to fit my feet and three hours of free time.

Preparatory stage

The only materials I spent on were insoles made of non-woven fabric. One of them had standard markings focused on average parameters. To tailor it “to you,” you should place your foot on top and outline it with a piece of dry soap. First cut one, and then the second according to its shape.

Then you need to tie the insoles.But before that, you should make holes in them at a distance of 1 cm from the edge and 1 cm from each other. To work with felt, craftswomen recommend using a hot awl. I made do with a nail, which I used to mark the holes, and also with a crochet hook. The latter, in order to widen the holes, was threaded through one side and pulled out from the other. I did the framing using single crochets.

Knitting the sole

The process includes:

  1. A set of air loops. The length of the chain in centimeters should be 2/3 of the length of the foot.
  2. Movement in a circle counterclockwise using single crochets or single crochets (sometimes double crochets). The cloth should be periodically applied to the insole to monitor the result.
  3. In the center of the top and bottom edges it is necessary to add loops so that the soles do not bend.

For my right insole, the diagram came out like this (the beginning and end are indicated in bold):

By the way! The number of circles, if necessary, can be easily increased, and the pattern can be varied depending on the size of the missing fragment.

At the left sole, the upper part of the last row is knitted in a mirror pattern. The transition to double crochet stitches in my case was necessary due to the protruding inner part of the foot. After knitting both soles, each should be connected to its own insole.

Adding a Top

It can be different:

  • closed or without a “spout”;
  • consisting of one or more elements;
  • with a simple or complex pattern:
  • with or without decor.

I decided not to split hairs, so I chose a slightly open nose and regular columns. To begin with, I counted five loops from the top left and right from the center, marking the outer ones with markers.Then from the front side I connected them with a chain of 10 chains. Next, turning the fabric over, I knitted one single crochet into each loop. At the end of the line I hooked and knitted a loop on the sole. After completing the row, the knitting is turned over again and the work continues. The loops are added each time, and the canvas becomes longer and wider.

Important! Slippers must be tried on every four rows. If you need to increase the rise, you can knit two loops from one loop, for example, in the center or on the sides. When shifting the horizontal, having reached the edge that is higher, you should knit not one, but two loops on the sole.

After finishing work on the upper part, it is better to tie the whole product again.

I got quite simple, but very comfortable slippers for my feet. I used triple thread wool from my old stock. Of course, if you are making slippers for sale or as a gift, you can specially buy knitted yarn, and also model a more interesting top.
