What kind of trouser material is tweed?

Tweed (from English tweed) is an elastic and soft fabric made of wool. It has a small pile with diagonal weaves.

The material has Scottish roots. In some areas it is made using ancient techniques. The fabric got its name by accident: one London merchant misunderstood the name “twill”. He decided that the material was named after the Tweed River. This name stuck with him forever.

Compound

sheep's woolMade from 100% sheep's wool: individuals are shorn, their wool is processed, then yarn is made and dyed. Modern technologies make it possible to introduce other types of threads into production, which helps improve quality. Classic tweed is painted in neutral tones: black, gray - this is ensured by the use of natural dyes. Currently, artificial dyes are used to create unusual colors: red, blue, cyan.

Fabric properties

  1. Pleasant to the touch, tactile, attractive;
  2. Wear resistance, strength, durability;
  3. Consistency of thread color, no fading (thanks to twill weaving);
  4. Providing reliable protection from cold wind and any bad weather, heat resistance;
  5. Prompt self-healing: small defects (tightenings, snags, punctures) are easily minimized by tensioning the material.

Yarn processing:

Mulinated - twisted threads.
Using knots – characterized by heterogeneity of threads.
