Chevrons are stripes on a special uniform that indicate affiliation with the type of activity. They can be seen, for example, on the clothes of representatives of government security agencies, private security companies and even students. The stripes are located in strictly designated places, namely:
- on the back;
- sleeves;
- breasts
How to properly sew chevrons onto a uniform
To avoid possible mistakes, you should know some general rules:
- All sleeve insignia are attached at a distance of 8 cm below the shoulder seam.
- In most cases, the information on the chevrons on the left side is general, while the information on the right side is more specific.
In addition, it is important to take into account the specifics of the workwear patches for each specific “user”.
Police officer
There are several distinctive signs on the uniform of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This:
- Shield-shaped sleeve insignia. On his left hand he indicates his affiliation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It contains the inscriptions “POLICE”, “RUSSIA”, “Ministry of Internal Affairs”. In the center is the coat of arms of the Russian Federation. On the right hand is the unit's emblem.For example, for traffic police officers this is a car in front of two crossed swords in sheaths with the hilts up. The background can be steel, gray-blue, white and dark blue, to match the main clothing (shirt, jacket, jacket, etc.)
- The back patch “POLICE” is rectangular in shape, size 275*85 mm, in a red frame. It is located strictly in the center 1 cm below or above the scarlet line (if present on clothing).
- The chest patch on the left shelf is a smaller copy of the back patch, 110*30 mm.
Important! Exceptions to the rules in paragraphs 2 and 3 are the traffic police, SOBR and riot police chevrons. Traffic police officers have a “POLICE” badge on their back without a frame, and “TRAFFIC DPS” on their chest. Special purpose units have corresponding inscriptions.
Security guard
The chevrons on his uniform indicate which organization he belongs to. All the rules listed in the previous paragraph apply to the badges of private security officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. For private security companies, their location is advisory in nature, but can be determined by the institution’s Charter. Possible options:
- dorsal - the largest chevron at the level of the shoulder blades (length 20–30 cm);
- sleeves: on the left - with the general symbols of the Russian Federation (private security companies do not have it), on the right - with the logo or name of a private security company;
- breastplates: the left one with the inscription “PROTECTION” or with the employee’s full name, the right one with his blood type.
Schoolboy and cadet
There is no law on compulsory student uniforms in Russia today, but more and more educational institutions are moving towards uniformity in student clothing. Most often, an applied chevron in the form of the emblem of an educational organization is sewn onto the vest in the chest area on the left or right.There are no general rules for placement; the location is regulated by the local regulations of the educational organization.
Rank insignia is applied equally to all uniforms. A chevron is applied to the straightened fabric, outlined with soap, secured along the contour with safety pins and baited. Then, using dense stitches of 2-3 mm, it is sewn on by hand or sewn on by machine.
Important! During operation, the chevron should not move, then it will be carefully sewn on and give the form a strict, official look.
