There are things in our wardrobe that are considered basic. A striking example is a T-shirt. It is indispensable in everyday life and is a unisex underwear without a collar or buttons, but with sleeves, the length of which can be different.
In English-speaking countries, this item of clothing is called a “T-shirt” for its design that resembles the letter “T”. In our country, the word “T-shirt” has taken root, since in Soviet times such clothing was part of the sports uniform of football players.
The T-shirt became a full-fledged item of clothing when the Second World War ended. In the middle of the twentieth century, it was considered a mandatory element of equipment for soldiers in the United States. At that time, it became clear that such clothes were convenient for physical education and performing hard work in the hot season.
However, the true flowering of her popularity is associated with a photograph of soldiers in snow-white T-shirts with prints published in the American magazine Life. Such a significant event happened in 1942.
Note that at that time the T-shirt was recognized as independent outerwear only in the army.Walking through the city streets in it was still considered the height of indecency. But this stereotype was also broken thanks to the film A Streetcar Named Desire, where the incomparable Marlon Brando played the main role. In almost every frame of the film, his character appeared in a T-shirt.
For several more decades, the T-shirt remained an element of the wardrobe of a narrow circle of people: rebels and members of informal groups. They began to wear it en masse in the 70-80s of the twentieth century.
For sewing modern models, light, elastic knitwear is used. It is noteworthy that today there are no T-shirts that do not contain a small amount of synthetics. The main components include cotton and linen. In addition, models made from 100% artificial materials are popular.
These days, a T-shirt is no longer considered just sportswear. Men combine it with jeans and a jacket, with a sweater and trousers. Women create successful combinations by pairing a T-shirt with a skirt, sundress, trousers and jeans.
Modern fashion is democratic, so stylists offer us a variety of models of this basic wardrobe item. Thus, there are T-shirts with long and short sleeves, raglan-type models, as well as “sleeveless vests” that look like T-shirts with wide straps.
The neckline can be round or triangular. The standard length of the product itself is up to the upper thigh, however, there are elongated models (tunics) and very short ones (barely covering the waistline).
