Quick ways to fold a cotton robe
Not all medical staff have the opportunity to leave their gowns within the walls of the hospital or clinic. Clothes must be taken home, washed frequently and ironed every morning. It’s good if you have an iron at work, you can use it to give things the perfect look in a matter of minutes. But what if you don't have a household appliance at hand? Use some tips for proper folding.
Method No. 1
- choose a perfectly flat and clean horizontal surface, a table or ironing board will do;
- lay out the robe, iron it with your palms so that creases do not form on the fabric later;
- bend it in half so that the shoulder seams touch each other;
- connect the sleeves, carefully fold them and place them in the center;
- after all the manipulations, proceed to twisting the item;
- starting from the collar, form a roll or “roll”.
Method No 2:
- take the ironed robe by the shoulders;
- be sure to check that the floors are in perfect contact, try to level the product as much as possible;
- fold clothes in half, vertically;
- Continue to hold the hanger with one hand, connect the floors and the back with the other;
- place the robe on a flat surface;
- bend the sleeves from the shoulder seam so that they are on one of the floors;
- Fold the product in half again and pack.
Using a substrate
Any flat rectangular thing will do, for example, a book, a general notebook, a document folder, a pack of tights, or a not very voluminous box made of thick cardboard. Fasten all buttons before folding. Place the robe face down on a table or ironing board. Place a backing (in this case, a book) under the collar.
- Fold both sleeves at the shoulder and elbow so that they are directly on the book.
- Fold the hems of the robe starting from the right side, do the same on the left.
- The long hem must be folded several times, wrapping it around the book.
- After this, carefully remove the backing. The method is quite fast and easy. With a little practice and patience, you will learn how to fold your workwear perfectly evenly.
Student style
This method is used not only by students of medical universities, but also by doctors, nurses, and housewives:
- First you need to turn the robe inside out.
- Place your arms through the sleeves and bring them together.
- Bend the product vertically so that the floors of the left and right sides match as closely as possible.
- Place the item on a horizontal surface. Pay special attention to the collar, carefully leveling it.
- After all the manipulations, it’s time to fold the robe: in half or roll it up.
Final inspection
Make sure there are no wrinkled areas on the robe. The item must be perfectly flat. Once you are sure of this, you can pack. If this is a medical gown, then most often a regular plastic bag is used to transport it. Or buy a ziplock bag of a suitable size, this is a bag with a lock or a gripper. Zip-lock has a high density and does not allow air and moisture to pass through. Place the robe into the bag carefully, placing the product on your palm.Before fastening the ziplock, straighten the fabric.
If the robe has a belt, it is better to remove it, roll it up and pack it separately.
Household tricks
- It is better to fold on a horizontal surface. This is much more convenient than by weight.
- You need to straighten the fabric carefully, using your palms, turning the item with the front side facing you.
- To prevent the item from becoming wrinkled during, say, transportation, use a sealed bag with a gripper, tape or a zipper. Transport the robe in an upright position.
And one more very important tip: After you have ironed the robe, let it cool for a while. Hang the product on hangers and let the fabric “rest” in this position for at least 10–15 minutes. A product that has just been ironed and has not cooled down may still have creases and irregularities. Therefore, it is better not to take risks.
To prevent your robe from getting wrinkled: how to iron it correctly
Many people face the same problem: the part of the item that has just been ironed immediately becomes wrinkled. What to do in this case? It is necessary to strictly follow the instructions for properly steaming clothes. To begin, select a horizontal ironing surface. Ideally, this is an ironing board. If she's not at home, it doesn't matter. You can use any table. The main thing is that the surface is clean.
It's great if you have a steamer at home. This device allows you to iron an item perfectly, without leaving any kinks or shiny spots on the fabric. This result can really be achieved using an iron. Make sure that the device is clean, in good working order and that it is set to the desired temperature.. If your iron does not have a water spray function, use a spray bottle. Fill a container with slightly warm water and apply a small amount to the robe before ironing it.Follow these guidelines:
- iron the shoulder and side seams with a hot iron, slightly stretching them while ironing;
- steam the shoulder seam towards the neckline, iron the side seam in the opposite direction;
- tidy up the small details: belt, pockets, collar, cuffs;
- move on to the sleeves; to make the task easier, you can purchase a special stand, which is designed for ironing these particular items of clothing;
- Do not touch the hose seams with a hot electrical appliance to avoid the formation of arrows and creases.;
- gently, slowly steam the base of the robe;
- iron the button area with the tip of the iron.
Remember that the robe must be freshly washed. There is no point in ironing a dirty item; the result will not please you. To avoid the formation of scorch marks and shine on the fabric, it is advisable to use a piece of gauze. It should be placed evenly on the product and only after that should you begin to process the item with steam.
What material to choose for easy folding?
It is important that the robe not only fits perfectly, but also does not wrinkle. Choose your product carefully and pay attention first of all to the fabric from which it is made. Look at polyester, 100% cotton, synthetic and cotton blends if it's a medical gown. If this is a homemade product, then flannelette, terry, and fleece are usually in favor.
Such fabrics practically do not wrinkle, dry quickly, are pleasant to the body, have high wear resistance, and are hygroscopic.. Clothes are ironed well and do not become deformed even with daily wear. In order for the robe to wrinkle less, it must be washed correctly. Sometimes powder alone is not enough.Add a small amount of fabric softener to warm water each time you rinse. It repels dirt and moisture from the fabric, eliminates static electricity, and softens the fabric for subsequent ironing.
