Do you want to give a gift to your beloved man? Then sew him a bathrobe or a light wrap robe. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to sew; every woman can handle a simple robe model. You will need fabric, scissors, thread, needles, measuring tape and tracing paper. The pattern for a men's robe can be found on the Internet.
Taking measurements
The first stage of work is taking measurements. You need to measure your chest circumference, neck circumference, waist circumference. For this you will need a centimeter. If you can’t take measurements, you can use standard parameters.
Don't forget to choose the length of the product - the robe can be mini, midi or maxi. The most comfortable options for men's dressing gowns for everyday wear are midi or maxi.
How to take measurements correctly?
- We take the chest girth horizontally along the most protruding points of the chest and shoulder blades, and run a measuring tape through the armpits.
- We take the waist circumference at the narrowest point of the abdomen.
- We measure the circumference of the hips at the most protruding points of the hips.
- Length of the product - measure from the seventh cervical vertebra to the desired length of the product.
You have taken your measurements, chosen the length of your future robe and are now ready for the next stage.
Choosing fabric and style
Before you start working, you need to choose the material for the pattern of the men's robe. As a rule, they are sewn from terry - ordinary towels are made from it, or from velosoft, a very soft and delicate fabric.
When you choose a fabric, you should think about the style. For a beginner, a simple model with a belt is best - it is not only comfortable and practical to wear, but also very easy to sew. A pattern for such a simple robe can be found on the Internet.
Important! Before purchasing fabric, do not forget to take all measurements and calculate the exact amount of fabric that will be used for the robe. With a width of 150, add up the length of the sleeve and the length of the product - that is how much fabric you will need.
Preparing a pattern for a wraparound robe
The pattern will have several details: shelves, back, two sleeves and a belt.
The pattern needs to be transferred to tracing paper, graph paper, newspaper or even baking paper - here you can use what you have at home or what you can buy at your local craft store.
The most difficult stage of working with a robe is cutting out the parts. To do this, you need to fold the fabric in two layers along the grain thread, facing inward, and secure the fabric with pins around the perimeter so that it does not move while you work.
Trace the pattern of the part with chalk or soap, after which it can be cut out. The pattern is ready!
Important! When cutting out pieces, be sure to leave seam allowances.
Sew the finished product
After you have cut out the robe, you can begin the fun part - sewing it.
First, sew the fronts and back of the robe along the side transverse seams.
Important! To make it convenient for you to work, before laying the machine line, sweep everything seam forward with a needle, after which you can undo it.
To process the bottom of the robe, first go along the cut with a zigzag seam, then fold it 3-4 cm and stitch, stepping back from the edge 2-2.5 cm. This method of processing the bottom is called hemming with an open cut. If the fabric is thin, turn the bottom up first by one centimeter, then by 2-3 and place the seam under the hem with a closed cut.
Then grab the sleeves. First, sew the side seams on the sleeves; work the bottom of the sleeves in the same way as the bottom of the robe. Carefully sew the sleeve into the armhole.
Fold the waistband crosswise, face inward, stitch along the edges, leaving one of the side seams unsewn. Turn the belt through it and straighten the corners.
A sharp needle will help you here: carefully pry the corners of the belt and pull them out. Then stitch along the very edges around the perimeter of the waistband.
Important! Finish all seams with a zigzag stitch or overlock stitch so that they do not interfere with wear.
Just a little left! Start processing the neck and sides of the robe.
Take two strips of fabric, sew them face inward along the longitudinal seam, turn them face out. Pin the facing to the raw edges, then stitch.
Important! Remember to remove the pins from the fabric while you are sewing, as they may get stuck in the sewing machine and break it.
Sewing a men's robe using a ready-made pattern is easy.
Ready! Now your robe can be a wonderful gift for your loved one.
