Fashion is constantly changing, especially when it comes to the ever-present jeans. Sooner or later, even the coolest and most stylish models go out of trend and are included by fashion experts in the lists of “anti-trends”. However, sometimes the hand does not rise to throw away the thing you adore, but instead it is better to completely extend its life in one simple way. If you are serious about giving new life to your jeans or any other denim material, then they can be repurposed into many other new, beautiful and useful things, such as coats.
Preparation of material
First you need to select all the necessary things for the combination. To create the length of the product we need, we will need a pair of jeans and a denim jacket. Also, if you wish, you can use another unnecessary pair of denim pants for the hood.
To prepare for the main process, you will need to rip the sleeve and side seams, then remove the collar, cuffs and belt.If you are going to make a hood, then steam all the material, and for everything else, do not touch only the crotch seam.
To get the right length, we need to cut off the top of the jeans, making a “skirt” out of the bottom. To do this, we sew together the two back parts, and you will need to leave the front as is, so that you can later make a fastener or attach buttons. Sew together with denim.
You will need to make inserts into the side seams to expand the product. For this purpose, we cut out cone-like wedges from the main pants with a crotch seam in the very center. The length of the insert should be as long as the side seam of the jacket together with the “skirt”. From the remaining material we cut out an insert for the sleeve, which also needs to be made larger so that the lining fits comfortably. We sew two inserts together and sew the jeans and arms into the side stitch.
We will make a double headdress, so you will need to cut out 4 whole parts. You may end up with each part consisting of 2 parts that need to be sewn together one by one. At the end we sew both products together.
For insulation, you can buy either faux fur or take some also unsuitable jacket for alteration.
In the case of a jacket, we completely prepare it: we remove the pills, buttons, tags and sew up the loops.
Next we move on to sewing on the headdress. We will attach the outer part to the denim jacket, and the inner part to the lining. We turn out the lining and leave the seams on the inside. In order to hide it under the fastener, we rip the seam into which we put the edge of the jacket into it and sew it on.
Adjusting the main fabric
At this stage we move back to the skirt. We take small pieces of jeans and add width, and on them we sew a belt from the same jeans, divided in half.
We tuck the lining under the clasp, stitch it, and attach the carabiners on the belt loops as a clasp.
Next, draw a line 2 cm from the edge of the hood, and then insert the cord.
We will make the bottom of the coat with a belt. We take a belt from a denim jacket that will go to the front, it must be divided into 2 halves. We sew the jeans belt in the center and sew it to the coat.
The lining should be secured with several stitches by hand or by machine.
