How to sew a hijab

hijabEverywhere in the world, Muslim women adhere to their religion and culture. Sharia requires girls who profess Islam to cover their bodies from prying eyes. Therefore they must wear hijab. It is quite easy to sew it with your own hands.

We sew a hijab with our own hands

Hijab can be of several types:

  • whole;
  • composite.

one piece hijabWhole is a wide cape from head to toe. In this type, the part intended to hide the head and face is tied in a special way or has the shape of a hood.

composite hijabComposite hijab consists of a loose canopy and a head scarf, which is sewn in a special way and does not require tying. The scarf can be short (slightly below the shoulders), medium length (to the waist) and long (to the toes).

On a note! In Western countries, hijab is often called not a full suit, but only a scarf on the head, which also covers the face.

We offer to sew a composite hijab. It is both more comfortable to sew and to wear.

What measurements will you need?

The hijab has a loose fit, but you cannot sew it without measurements.To sew a canopy you will need the following parameters:

  • product length: measured along the back line from the last cervical vertebra to the toes;
  • sleeve length: measured from shoulder to wrist;
  • sleeve width: the circumference of the wrist is measured (since this is a loose-fitting design, only in this part does the sleeve fit against the arm);
  • product width: determined by the widest part of the body +15–20 cm.

Important! The hijab should not hug the figure even in the widest places.

The following measures are required for the scarf:

  • chin protuberancelongitudinal and transverse head circumference;
  • forehead height;
  • forehead width;
  • length of the chin protuberance (measured along the lower edge of the jaw, shown in the picture);
  • The length of the product is determined arbitrarily.

Now we are creating a pattern for sewing.

Hijab pattern

The pattern is created taking into account your own measurements.

To create a cape pattern, we perform the following steps:

  1. Place point A in the left corner of the paper.
  2. From it we draw a segment downwards equal to the length of the product and place point B.
  3. From B we draw a line to the right equal to half the width of the product, point C is formed.
  4. To the right of A, draw a segment equal to the length of the sleeve and place point D.
  5. From D, draw a line down, equal to the width of the sleeve, and place point E.
  6. From E lay a segment equal to the length of the cuff, put point F.
  7. Now we connect C and F with an arc.
  8. Draw a neck near the corner with point A.

The result was a flying cape. For clarity, you can use the proposed pattern and simply redraw it.

cutting

To create a scarf pattern, follow the instructions:

  1. We put point H, from which we draw down a line equal to the length of the product, taking into account the transverse half-circumference of the head, and put point G.
  2. From H, draw a segment to the right equal to the longitudinal circumference of the head, put a point N.
  3. From N we draw down a segment equal to the chin protuberance, and place a point L.
  4. Now you need to subtract the segment NL from the total length. Now from L we lay a segment obliquely to the right, equal in length to HG-NL. Let's put point M.
  5. We connect with a rounded line GM.

On a note! The greater the deviation of the LM line, the longer the front of the scarf will be.

hijab covers foreheadYou also need to create a pattern for the insert for the scarf (the hijab itself). For this draw a rectangle whose length is equal to the height of the forehead, and whose width is equal to the width of the forehead.

Step-by-step description of sewing a hijab

Now we cut out the pattern in full size and transfer it to the fabric. We cut out pieces with a 5 cm gap for seams and hems.

Important! The patterns are designed to display half of the product, so the fabric needs to be folded in half.

Let's start sewing the flyaway.

  1. Unfold the pattern and stitch all edges.
  2. Sew the EC line on both sides.

ready-made hijab

Ready! The flyaway is quite easy to sew. But the scarf that makes our product a hijab is not difficult.

  1. Cut out the pattern and sew along the side seams.
  2. In the front part, sew an element covering the forehead.

This way you will get a cape on your head that will not need to be tied. We ended up with a hijab made from two parts.
