A cardigan is a practical item in a woman's wardrobe that can be combined with dresses, skirts and jeans. It can be monochromatic, in a discreet design. However, one day such monotony becomes boring.
Decorating a cardigan
You can update your cardigan and make it more stylish by adding decorative elements. For this, improvised materials that you can find at home or buy are quite suitable: beads, rivets, zippers, sequins, pieces of leather and other materials.
You can decorate the product with embroidery, lace or inserts from another fabric. All these methods are good not only for changing a product beyond recognition, but also for masking defects. If, while wearing or storing a cardigan, a stain, hole or puff has formed, all this can be easily corrected by using your imagination and creative skills.
Ways to decorate a cardigan
All decor options that will be discussed are applicable to knitted and sewn products. The only thing you need to understand is that if you want to add additional details - shoulder straps or straps on a knitted product will be technically more difficult to make than on one sewn from woven fabric.
Embroidery
You can decorate a cardigan with embroidery if it is made of suede or knitted fabric. Floss threads are suitable for embroidery.
You can also embroider on knitted models, but then it is better to use thicker threads, for example, acrylic.
Embroidery can be in the form of plants, images of animals, birds or ornaments. You can make an imitation of a brooch, embroider a butterfly, a bunny, a cat in one place. If this is a knitted cardigan, then embroidered additional pattern elements on top of existing ones (flowers, leaves, geometric shapes) will look good. This embroidery will add a special touch to the cardigan.
Application of applications
Applique is ideal for suede or materials that do not stretch too much. In this case, it is enough to secure the applique to the product using adhesive web.
For a knitted cardigan, the applique can be on the pocket. If you place it in a different place, you must follow the contour with a machine stitch or hand stitches. Knitted fabric stretches and the applique without fastening will quickly peel off.
Use of beads, sequins, studs
They can be attached in the usual way by sewing. You can also use silicone glue, especially if there are half beads. Fix with glue quickly, however, you first need to check whether the glue holds. But you can also use textile glue. Beads, sequins, and studs very effectively transform a cardigan, giving it elegance and femininity.
Adding new parts to a product
To do this, you can use patch pockets, collars, shoulder straps, zippers, and straps. The zippers are simply sewn on top of the fabric, imitating a pocket, but at the same time they serve only as decoration. Very Patch pockets in contrasting colors look impressive. This detail can also add practicality to the product - usually there are not enough pockets when wearing.
IMPORTANT! Shoulder straps and straps give the product a sporty touch, so it is better to remake cardigans in this way with a neutral, universal cut.
Using lace patches and lace inserts
Patches are a great way to personalize a cardigan. The product can be given more femininity or made more youthful. The patches are simply sewn on top of the fabric; no special sewing skills are required.
For lace inserts you need to use one tricky method. In the required area, lace is sewn on top around the perimeter, and then the excess knitwear is trimmed off from the wrong side. The lace inserts in the shoulder area look original.
