Recently, cardigans have become less popular, but many believe that they are undeservedly relegated to the background. They are suitable for creating trendy layered looks and go well with jeans and trousers of various styles, shorts and skirts.

Cardigan with hood Necessary materials:

  • Yarn No. 1 50 g/110 m – 9 skeins;
  • Yarn No. 2 50 g/165 m – 2 skeins;
  • Knitting needles No. 7.8;
  • The size of the finished product is 42-44.

Back

Cast on 50 loops with yarn No. 1 and knit 14 rows with an elastic band, alternating 2 IPs and 2 LPs on knitting needles No. 7.

Change the needles to number 8 and knit all the rows of the LP, while knitting a pattern of stripes. In the first row of the pattern, add 2 loops.

At a height of 32 cm from the elastic, start making armholes. To do this, on each side in even rows, decrease 2 loops once and 1 loop six times. After this, there should be 36 loops left on the knitting needles.

Continue knitting without increasing or decreasing until the armholes reach a height of 22.5 cm. Then, in even rows, cut 4 loops twice.

After the cuts, there will be 20 stitches left on the needles. They need to be moved to an additional spoke.

Left shelf

Cast on 58 stitches with size 1 yarn on size 7 needles. Knit the first row and all the rest as follows: 1 CP, 29 SP, 2 SP AND 2 LP (alternate the last 4 loops until the end of the row), 1 SP, 1 CP.

Having knitted 8 cm with this pattern, change the knitting needles to number 8 and continue knitting with the LP pattern, while making a pattern of stripes.

When the height of the fabric after the elastic reaches 20 cm, begin forming the neckline. To do this, decrease 1 loop every four rows (8 times), then decrease 1 loop in every sixth row (4 times).

Having knitted 12 cm from the beginning of the decreases, on the right in even rows, cut 1 time for 2 loops and 6 times for 1 loop.

Having tied the armhole to a height of 22.5 cm, close from the outer edge in even rows twice, 4 loops each. After the decreases, a shoulder bevel should appear.

Then fasten the unclosed 30 loops on an additional knitting needle. You need to knit the right shelf in the same way as the left one, but in a mirror image.

Sleeves

Start knitting on needles No. 7 with yarn No. 1 and cast on 26 loops. Next, knit 8 cm, alternating 2 IP and 2 LP.

After 8 cm, change the knitting needles to number 8 and continue knitting the LP.

On each side to form the sleeve cap, add 1 loop in rows 15 and 16, add 1 loop in each 8th row 4 times. After the additions, you should end up with 34 stitches on the knitting needles.

Having knitted the fabric to a height of 40 cm from the elastic band, cut on each side in even rows 1 time for 2 loops, 9 times for 1 loop. This leaves 12 loops.

Close off the loops remaining after decreases.

Advice: For convenience, you can knit both sleeves at once. This way they will definitely turn out symmetrical.

Pockets

Pockets are knitted in 2 threads (1 each from yarn No. 1 and No. 2) on knitting needles No. 8. Cast on 14 loops. Then in even rows from each edge add 2 times 1 loop.

Knit 19 rows in this way and then change the pattern to alternating 2 IP and 2 LP. In this way, knit 6 rows and complete the knitting.

Hood

Cast on the remaining neck stitches on the needles. There should be 80 of them in total: 30 from each shelf and 20 from the back.

Continue knitting with stockinette stitch. Using a marker, highlight the middle 2 loops. On both sides of them, add 1 loop 1 time in 4 rows.

Continue knitting 18 rows without increases.

After this, in even rows, decrease 1 loop on both sides of the middle loops.

Divide the loops between two knitting needles. Fold the resulting part with the right side inward, knit the remaining loops together in pairs, closing them.

Belt

Cast on 6 stitches with 2-ply yarn on size 8 needles. Next, knit, alternating 2 IP and 2 LP until the belt reaches the desired length.

Assembly

Sew shoulders and sleeves, sew side seams. Sew the pockets, focusing on the final row of elastic.
