A men's suit is a status item, so it is important how neat it looks, and sooner or later the question of cleaning or washing it arises. Of course, it’s easier to take it to the dry cleaner, pay a certain amount, pick it up and continue using it. But in a situation where a suit is your man’s daily wear, this pleasure is not cheap, you can find a more budget-friendly option for bringing such an item into proper shape - washing it.
Which suit is not recommended to be washed?
- Suede.
- Leather.
- Velvet suit.
- Corduroy suit.
- Woolen.
Products made from the above materials are quite expensive, and washing can damage them. Here - only dry cleaning!
A classic men's suit includes a jacket, trousers, and sometimes a vest.
Washing a jacket
Many parts may contain an adhesive layer for rigidity (shoulders, cuffs, lapels). If the tag on your clothing allows it to be washed, there is nothing to fear.
Manual under shower
Sometimes it is necessary to wash a student's jacket, but frequent washing can cause it to lose its shape. Try one of the gentle methods - in the shower.This method is also suitable for clothes with glued parts, as well as for highly wrinkled ones.
We proceed like this:
- Shake out the dust;
- Hang on a hanger above the bathtub;
- Wet with warm water from a watering can;
- Prepare a washing solution consisting of water and detergent;
- Soak the brush in the prepared solution and rub the most problematic areas first, then the entire jacket;
- Rinse soap from the shower head until the water runs clear;
- Dry the product without removing it from the hanger;
- If you didn't use hot water or wring out, then ironing may not be necessary.
The second way to hand wash is to immerse the item in the bath.
It is suitable for suits made of half-wool or synthetic fabrics. Check the tag and wash using the same steps as above. The only difference is that the jacket will be without hangers and placed completely in the water. When you finish washing, rinse the item, hang it on hangers to dry. Without waiting for complete drying, steam through the fabric and let the jacket dry further.
Machine washable
Recommended for suits made of viscose or silk.
Important:
- Select the delicate mode in the machine menu if the manual method is not indicated.
- Set the temperature to no more than 30 degrees.
- Turn off spin.
- Use conditioner.
- Be sure to hang the washed item on hangers.
- Steam the still damp jacket.
Washing trousers
Trousers and jacket are washed at the same time. If there is also a vest, then it should also be washed with other parts of the suit. This maintains the same degree of wear and staining. Trousers do not require any special cleaning methods; the steps can be the same as when washing a jacket.But during drying, it is better to lay the trousers on a flat surface, first covering it with a terry towel, aligning the arrows.
Important Tips:
Before you start, look for sewn tags in the seams; they will allow you to choose the right way to clean the suit.
Checking labels.
- “Hand wash” - wash in the shower or immersion in the bath. Image of a basin with a palm lowered into it. Check - if the container has a strikethrough mark - it is prohibited to wash it!
- We pay attention to the “ironing mode” - this will prevent the iron from overheating for this type of fabric; it is better to use steaming.
Mode selection
- The temperature regime usually depends on the composition of the fabric: linen - no more than +60 degrees, cotton - no more than +40 degrees, synthetics - +30 degrees is enough.
- When machine washing, choose a delicate mode, excluding “spin”, or limiting it to minimum speed.
Choice of product
Attention! Give preference to liquid detergents. They dissolve evenly, absorbing into the fabric. The powder runs the risk of leaving white streaks on the fabric after drying, which are not easy to remove.
When rinsing, use fabric softener, it will help steam the suit easier.
