DIY orange costume

orange costumeAfter the success of a juice advertisement in which children in fruit costumes read poetry, the “fruit” theme was actively picked up by schools and kindergartens when organizing children's parties and performances, and parents were faced with the need to create costumes for them. We encountered particular difficulties when creating three-dimensional shapes, for example, an orange.

How to make an orange costume

option 2The simplest option, which does not require any investment of effort or time, is just buy your child bright orange clothes. This option also has a right to exist, however, it can be made more interesting, for example, by adding makeup. It is enough to draw a white circle on the tip of the nose, draw straight white lines from it in different directions and color the “lobes” orange - and the image will become much more complete.

option 1Or you can cut on a large piece of cardboard (for example, on an old box) a circle about the size of a child’s torso or a little smaller, and color it like half an orange. After this, secure it around the neck and waist with ribbons.You can also make a second circle of the same size, color it orange and place it on your back, connecting it to the “half” with straps over your shoulders.

option 3The next option will require a large piece of orange fabric and white paint or white ribbon. A circle is cut out of fabric, the radius of which is approximately equal to the length of the child’s torso. A hole for the head is cut in the middle and white stripes are sewn or drawn from it to the edges, separating the “lobules”. It turns out something like a poncho. For the arms, you can either make two side slits from bottom to top, or make regular round cuts.

If you put an elastic band along the bottom of such a poncho and pull it up to the waist, the orange will turn out “pot-bellied.”

ATTENTION! To create volume, many parents place foam rubber under their child’s clothes. If the event lasts a long time, we do not recommend doing this to avoid overheating!

Making an orange costume for a boy with your own hands

We propose to make such a bright version of a voluminous suit, which will definitely not be hot.

Preparatory stage

DIY orange costumeTo create it you will need:

  • orange fabric approximately 1.3 meters;
  • some green fabric for decoration;
  • a small yellow ribbon on the cutouts for the head and arms;
  • elastic bands;
  • wire.

The main element of the costume

Making the base begins with the frame. Measure the elastic bands to the required length (the bottom one should go around the child’s waistband, the top one should be wider than the neck). Then stretch the bent wires from one to the other to form a ball shape.

ATTENTION! When attaching the wire to the elastic, wind it outward and make sure that the end does not scratch the child, especially on the bottom elastic, adjacent to the body.

main element of the costumeCover the resulting frame with orange fabric.In order to secure it, sheathe the points of contact with the wire along the entire length. To make the main element look solid and neat, trim the collar and sleeves with yellow tape, and the belt with green fabric.

Separately, leaves are cut out of green fabric, which are slightly gathered at the base and attached to the collar.

Pants for orange

Underneath, you can wear standard clothing in black or white, or, if available, yellow, green or orange.

orange pantsIf you choose the latter option, then the abundance of orange can be compensated by trimming the pants with white ribbons so as to create alternating wide orange stripes with thin white ones. The same can be done on the sleeves.

Another option for a slightly hooligan look is green shorts and orange and white high socks.

Shoes for such a suit are selected either as unattractive as possible, for example, black shoes, or, conversely, in the color scheme of the entire suit - orange or green.

Making a headdress

headdressIn order to get a hat like in the photo, a small wire frame was also made, attached to an elastic band that clasped the head. The top of it was covered in the same way with orange fabric, and the bottom was trimmed with green. Instead of a pompom, a small version of the collar leaves is sewn to the top of the headdress.

You can also do without a wire frame, in which case it will take less time and material. This beret can also be green.

What elements can complement an orange costume?

additional costume elementsAdditionally, you can make a small “twig” by stuffing elongated green fabric with synthetic padding and sewing it to the top of the headdress, possibly next to a leaf, or without it.

You can also make a beautiful frill around the collar.To do this, you will need the same green fabric from which the “grass” is cut, which is then sewn to the collar with the “blades of grass” down.
