The image of Leshy is well known to children from Russian fairy tales. In the children's imagination, he is a kind and quirky old man who lives in the deep forest and keeps order in his domain. The old forest man is not at all evil. He is a kind wizard who often helps lost travelers and loves children very much. The old wizard is sometimes not averse to fooling around like a child and being a little mischievous. Therefore, children are happy to dress up in the costume of this cheerful and cunning hero at New Year's parties.
How to sew a Leshy costume with your own hands
It’s not at all difficult to sew a New Year’s goblin costume with your own hands. Moreover, if you don’t know how to cut and sew at all, then this is exactly the case when inability will help to bring your hero’s clothes as close as possible to the original. After all, there have never been fashionable and elegant things in the devil’s wardrobe.
Costume base
Let's start with the shirt and pants.
It's easier with pants. In order not to worry too much, you can take the child’s old faded pants, from which he has already outgrown, it is better if they are short. Sew an expressive patch onto your knee; you can make a hole on the second knee. In this case, sew some bright flap on the back side of the hole to highlight it and make it especially noticeable.
Let's move on to the shirt. The ideal option is to sew it from burlap, preferably from an old bag (the shirt will be softer). In any case, wash it well first. If it is a bag, make a hole in it for the head and put the bag on the child. It will become clear to you where to make the slits for the arms and how to cut out the outline for the shirt. The remaining parts will go to the sleeves. The resulting cut is easy to sew.
Try to brush the edges of the sleeves and the bottom of the shirt well.
Advice! If you don’t have burlap, you can use an old shirt, sheet, or tablecloth as a basis.

Let's get down to details
When the shirt is ready, also sew a couple of patches to it and make several holes using the same pattern. Sew a large pocket, for what purpose - more on that below.
Advice. Pieces of fur sewn in different places on the shirt will look very expressive.
A thick rope is suitable as a belt, but in a pinch, clothesline will do.
Hat
You can wear Leshy's hat make it out of cardboard and cover it or cover it with washcloth (bast) from a gutted lime brush. They are sold in all hardware stores. From the same bast, sewing tufts to a wide elastic band, we make a beard.
Shoes
We will wear shoes in bast shoes. For this we will also need the remains of a wash brush. Take children's slippers (not flip-flops) and carefully sew them in a circle with tufts of sponge. You can use an ordinary bandage as windings.
Gloves
Old gloves will complement the New Year's costume of the devil well. It is desirable that they be of different colors. Alternatively, you can turn one glove inside out. The fingers of the gloves can be trimmed and made into fringes.
Staff
The simplest element of the costume is the devil's staff. It is better to make it from a maple branch. Saw off a suitable specimen somewhere in an abandoned wasteland and bring it home. Once the branch has thawed, you can easily remove the bark from it. The magic staff is ready!

Despite the winter, bunches of grass and dry leavesIt’s not difficult to find trees even in December. Tie them with a few stitches onto your pants, shirt, hat and windings of your New Year's costume. You can also sew needles and small branches of pine or Christmas tree.
If you have it in stock dry mushrooms, try to find a hat or a fragment of a hat and a spine and sew them to the hat. Decorate it and pine or fir cones.
Makeup
Leshy does not like to wash himself. Therefore, to complete the image, it is better if the child is a little grimy. To do this, you can use this method. Take a porcelain or ceramic cup and hold its bottom over the flame of a match or lighter for a few seconds. The soot formed at the bottom will become the “cosmetic product” of the devil. Don't worry, it's completely harmless and washes off easily.
Don't forget about the hotels!
Leshy is a wonderful, mischievous and very kind old man. And of course, he cannot come to the holiday without gifts. Remember how we sewed a big pocket onto the shirt? So, this is where we will place the gifts. Dried fruits, nuts, and, if available, dried berries are suitable as gifts. The child will be able to generously treat both children and adults with forest gifts at the festival.
If you have time, you can also sew a large rag bag with a shoulder strap. With large button closure. The child will put prizes that he wins in competitions and sweets into the bag.
