DIY ghost costume for a child

There is a belief that the line between the two worlds becomes thinner on the night of October 31 to November 1. It is customary to celebrate All Saints' Day (Halloween) by dressing up in costumes of magical characters and monsters in order to intimidate with their appearance the inhabitants of the “other world” who have visited the earth.

Today, Halloween is considered the most fun holiday, thanks to which both adults and children can dress up in the costume of any fairy-tale character and have a lot of fun. It is the ghost that is considered the most common image that young children and teenagers try on.

How to Make a Simple, Traditional DIY Ghost Costume

Only those who have never personally encountered them do not believe in the existence of ghosts. Some people are afraid of encountering paranormal phenomena, while others, on the contrary, strive to get in touch with the other world. Usually, to meet ghosts, thrill seekers go to abandoned houses with a “bad” reputation.

On the day of Saints Day, stumbling upon a silhouette in a white robe making terrifying sounds is as simple as trying it on yourself, or a child who wants to take part in the general fun. Children don’t have to try to terrify others; kids can pretend to be cute Casper from the movie of the same name.

To create a Casper costume, which is considered traditional, not many materials are needed:

  • a large piece of white fabric;
  • a cap, a knitted cap that fits tightly on the head;
  • scissors;
  • pin;
  • sewing supplies;
  • felt-tip pen.

Important! To prevent the child from getting tangled in the suit and falling, the length of the fabric must be no lower than the ankles.

Step-by-step manufacturing process:

  1. The first thing you need to do is put a cap or hat on the child’s head and throw a sheet on top.
  2. After the canvas is straightened so that it is the same length, use a felt-tip pen to mark the place for cutting out the holes for the eyes.
  3. Carefully, trying not to injure the child, the outer fabric is attached to the hat or cap with a pin. The costume blank is removed, and the place where the pin is attached is fixed with white threads. These actions are necessary so that during movements the fabric does not slip over the hair and does not fall.
  4. Use scissors to cut out holes for the eyes and the costume is ready.

Advice! To make it easier for the child to breathe, in addition to the eye sockets, the ghost’s mouth is also cut out on the fabric.

Creating a more complex ghost costume for a child

For older children and teenagers, you can make a costume consisting of several elements and use makeup. Girls will love the image of Victoria Everglot from the cartoon “Corpse Bride.”Ideally, to create it you will need a white fluffy dress, which will have to be thoroughly ruined by staining it and tearing it. If there is no suitable dress, to create a costume you will need:

  • T-shirt with thin straps, white;
  • white tulle;
  • markers for drawing on fabric;
  • head wreath made of artificial flowers;
  • White gloves;
  • white powder, black eye shadow and eyeliner.

The top of the costume will be a T-shirt decorated with a black marker. On the right side of the chest area, to make it more similar to Victoria’s character, you can draw several smooth ribs.

The bottom of the dress can be made from a ready-made white skirt or you can make it yourself from white tulle. A multi-tiered skirt (the more layers of tulle, the more magnificent it is) is attached to an elastic belt and several sloppy cuts are made. The hem is dirty and also torn, giving it the appearance of an old and worn-out dress.

The ghost bride wears gloves on her hand. On the left glove, use a marker to draw the outlines of the bones.

I put a wreath of artificial flowers on my head, to which a piece of tulle is sewn with threads - a wedding veil. It, like the rest of the outfit, needs to be torn and aged as much as possible.

On the face of the girl representing the ghost bride, you need to draw dark circles around the eyes. Powder your skin and lips as much as possible, so that they are almost white. For greater resemblance, eyebrows and eyes are outlined with a black pencil.

Boys can try on the image of Oscar Wilde's character from the book The Canterville Ghost. The Phantom of Ser de Canterville, who frightened the new inhabitants of his castle, according to the cartoon, was dressed very simply - in a torn knee-length shirt and blue slippers. Making such a costume is very simple.

Important! For greater resemblance to the Canterville bringing into the hands of the child depicting him, you need to give a small piece of chain, which he should rattle intimidatingly, scaring passers-by.

How to complement the image

If a child dressed in a ghost costume wants to brighten up his image, you can decorate the outfit with sparkles or even sew foil elements on it. To prevent the sheet from slipping when placed on your head, you can fasten it around your waist with a belt made of thin wire or chain.

Girls who have chosen a ghost bride costume should definitely be given a bouquet of withered flowers. You can make such a bouquet from pre-dried flowers, artificial or paper compositions.

Young Caspers need to wear white tights and white shoes on their feet. Fingernails can be painted black using ordinary manicure or special children's water-soluble varnishes.
