The Celtic holiday of Halloween means looking creepy and frightening! This effect is achieved through bright makeup and a scary costume.
Choosing a costume is one of the most difficult things to think about for this holiday. One of the most memorable and classic costume options is the skeleton costume.
Today we will discuss three ways to create this “sinister” image!
Drawing bone elements on clothing
To create a costume, you need to complete several basic steps.
How to choose a foundation
You can use any clothes you have as the basis for a “drawn” skeleton costume. It is better to try to use flesh-colored clothing or one that will highlight the white color of the drawn bones.
If possible, clothing should cover the maximum surface area of the body (to allow room for drawing) and be fitted - this will bring additional realism to the image of the skeleton.
How to draw
You can paint on clothes with special paints for clothes.You can purchase them at any art store - it is recommended to do this in advance, before Halloween, in order to be prepared for this “night of evil spirits’ outrage.”
Important: some types of fabrics require a pre-wash before applying dye - keep this in mind when creating your look!
Tip: to make it more convenient to draw on fabric, you can place a cardboard body stencil (flat cardboard, similar in shape to the human body) in your clothes - this will add rigidity and turn your clothes into a convenient canvas for drawing.
Difficulties in creating an image and solutions
Difficulty: While applying the paint, the paint stained that part of the clothing that (as intended) should not be “stained.”
Solution: You can be creative. Just add a few glitter or red paint to areas where paint accidentally gets splashed. This “trick” will emphasize the mysticism of your image and add even more mysticism - when the light hits your “costume”, the sparkles will begin to brightly reflect the light and create the effect of “glow inside the skeleton”, and the red paint will imitate drops of blood. Do you agree that this will look original?
Slits in fabric to imitate human bones
It is important to choose the right base material to make the costume successful and effective.
What to cut
You will have to cut your clothes - be mentally prepared for this.
You will need:
- Dark (black) T-shirt on the outside. A dark color, visually, will “remove” your body, leaving only what is under the slits;
- Light (flesh) clothes inside.
Clothing that will act as “bones”.
By wearing a dark T-shirt with holes in the shape of bones over light clothes, you can turn into a skeleton.Also, this type of outfit will help you not freeze if you decide to walk down the street that night with friends (don’t forget to notify and coordinate this with your parents in advance).
Cutting process
Bones should be cut out carefully and in compliance with safety rules when working with sharp objects.
If time allows, you can first draw the “bones” with soap, and then cut them out using a “stencil”.
Try to leave a distance of several centimeters between the “bones” so that the thin fabric of the T-shirt does not tear during use of the image.
Bone patches on clothing
The choice of base, as always, is yours. It is recommended to use clothing that can “withstand” the sewing of fabric elements to it, with imitation bones.
Sweaters with large knits or synthetic T-shirts are not the best solution - thread marks may remain on them and they may begin to “come apart at the seams.”
Regular cotton fabrics are the best solution for this task!
Preparing templates and cutting them out
Templates in the form of bones can be prepared using:
- Your own sketch;
- A finished sketch taken from the web.
You should cut out the templates carefully, following the rules for safe handling of sharp objects.
It is recommended to stitch the edges, if possible. This will add aesthetic beauty to your “bones” and protect them from being cut at the seams or “falling apart” into threads.
How to sew
You can sew:
- Manually;
- Using a sewing machine.
Both options are acceptable and allow you to sew on these elements well and reliably.
If you have sufficient “experience with needles and threads,” you can decorate the sewn elements with seams that will imitate cracks in bones or breaks.This will make your look more special and an individual element of the holiday.
How to complete the look
You can complete the image of the skeleton with the help of additional accessories - these are:
- Gloves;
- Hat;
- Appropriate footwear;
- Special phone case, others.
Such accessories will emphasize the elaboration of your image and will make you one of the most memorable people of the evening!
Don't be afraid to experiment, surprise and be sinister, and you will succeed!
