DIY snowflake costume for girls

New Year is a time of magic, children's smiles and fun. When, if not on New Year's holidays, dress a child in a fabulous outfit to please the baby and surprise those around him. A winter beauty snowflake costume is ideal for a girl.

This is a very festive and delicate outfit that will never go out of style. Its advantage is that it can be made up of many clothes and wardrobe items, and some elements are easy to sew.

What can you use to make a snowflake costume for a girl?

Before you start working on a costume for a little snowflake, you need to decide on the style and components of the outfit. If you need it for a children's party or matinee, then it would be more advisable to make a convenient and practical option so that the child can actively move, sing and dance.

For a photo shoot or celebration in a more relaxed atmosphere, you can choose a long or fluffy dress.

A white fur bolero looks very nice over a dress, but for a child such a cape may not be very comfortable. Moreover, in a small kindergarten hall it usually becomes stuffy due to active dancing and a large number of spectators.

For the snowflake costume you may need:

• white or silver dress or a combination of a skirt and blouse (top);
• white tights or knee socks;
• shoes, shoes or sandals;
• crown or headdress;
• other accessories of your choice, for example, beads, white gloves, a magic wand, tinsel.

Making a simple costume

When making your own costume with your own hands, take our idea as a basis. You can add jewelry to your outfit to suit your taste, in any style and technique.

What will you need?

To create a snowflake costume, you will need at least basic sewing skills either by hand or by machine. This is enough to sew a beautiful and simple outfit.

To create it you will need:

• tulle – 2 m;
• organza – 1 m;
• satin, crepe-satin, satin (or something similar) - 1 m;
• faux fur - half a meter;
• linen elastic.

Step-by-step instruction

Our costume will consist of a top and a skirt. The easiest way is to buy the top in a store or find it in your own closet. It can be either a white T-shirt or long sleeve, or a T-shirt with thin straps or a light blouse. In addition to white, the top can be silver, blue or milky. If you want to make a top yourself, the easiest way is to sew it from satin on thin straps, with a zipper at the back.

The lower part of the look will consist of a skirt. We will need to sew it completely ourselves. With the help of precise step-by-step instructions, this will not be as difficult as you think. So:

1. to start, take satin, cut a circle out of it and fold it exactly 4 times. You need to understand that the future skirt will have the silhouette of the sun. Estimate that the skirt is the right length (20–25 cm plus hems). Cut the common corner so that when you straighten the fabric, it forms a ring. Sew in an elastic band so that the petticoat fits well at the waist;
2. set aside the header and take the tulle for the top of the skirt. You will need to make several layers of it. You can cut them in the same way as above, or you can sew rectangular pieces. In this case, the skirt will be more fluffy and beautiful, and the fabric consumption will be much less. To do this, cut the tulle into strips 10 cm wide and approximately 25 cm long. For convenience, you can use a stationery knife rather than scissors;
3. prepare an elastic band - this will be the belt of our skirt. Sew strips to it randomly, layering them on top of each other until you reach the desired volume. Alternatively: do not sew the stripes, but tie them with an elastic band. This way you will cover it and make a fluffy belt;
4. if you want to add a little shine to your skirt, then use pieces of organza along with tulle. They can be cut in the shape of sharp icicle triangles and sewn to the belt in the same way. Straighten all layers. The layered snowflake skirt is ready!

DIY crown

What a snowflake without a fabulously beautiful headdress! The best option would be a DIY crown. The ideal basis for a delicate crown is a regular hair band. Take it immediately in white or pale blue, or wrap it with a satin ribbon in the same shades.

Next, all that remains is to come up with the design of the future accessory. We offer you several options:

• make a frame from wire in the shape of the characteristic teeth of a crown and wrap it with silver tinsel;
• Stores sell ready-made plastic snowflakes for home and Christmas tree decoration. You can easily cut them out yourself from cardboard. You can use them to decorate a crown, for example, by cutting them into halves and gluing them onto a hoop (see example in the photo). You can complement the product with beads, rhinestones, sequins and other shiny things;
• Cut out a frame in the shape of a crown from a transparent plastic bottle. Cover it with white knitted or nylon lace. You can also use tulle. Decorate the accessory with pearls or silver rain.

What to wear on your feet?

As shoes for your baby, you can use shoes, sandals or slippers for sports and dancing. Don't buy high heels for a little girl, no matter how fancy they look.. It is better to choose shoes with flat soles or 1-2 cm platforms.

You can decorate white shoes or slippers yourself. To do this, you can use fur pompoms, silver rain or tinsel, snowflakes made of tulle, ribbons or lace. Sandals are usually already decorated with beautiful elements, so you shouldn’t overload the look.
