- accessories (zippers, snaps or buttons, rivets, buckles);
- tools - sewing machine (suitable for sewing thick fabric), thick needles, pins, scissors, thread.
We sew a leather jacket with our own hands
Where can I get the pattern? The best option would be to take a pattern from specialized sewing magazines, relevant Internet portals, or to rip up your old jacket, blazer, raincoat, etc. In the latter case, you will have less problems with “adjusting” the pattern to size, because ready-made patterns often need to be modified to suit the individual characteristics of the figure.
On a note!
An example of a pattern would be an old jacket.
For a women's product, important parameters will be the chest girth and (depending on the length of the product) the hip girth.
Uncover. We lay out the main fabric and distribute the patterns on it, leaving the necessary space for allowances. Their size at the neckline, sides and bottom is about 1 cm, at the armhole - about 1.5 cm; allowances for sleeves at the edge are about 1.5 cm, at the bottom – 3.5-5 cm. Make a corresponding cut for the lining fabric.
Next, glue non-woven fabric to all the parts (cut from the main fabric) that you want to give rigidity.
First we sew the back and front, then the sleeves, then the collar:
- We sew the collar, processing the seams.
- Sew the sleeves together, finishing the seams.
- We sew the collar into the neck of the product.
- We sew the sleeves into the armholes of the product.
Back and shelves: sew the internal seams, iron them, and make a finishing seam on the outside. We complement this part of the jacket with details: belt, pockets, zipper and others.
How to sew a men's leather jacket with your own hands
The process of cutting and sewing women's and men's biker jackets is similar.
To pattern a men's biker jacket, the following parameters should be taken into account: shoulder width, neck circumference, sleeve length. Take the necessary measurements and change patterns as necessary. By following the instructions described above, you can sew this item of clothing for men too.
Men suit more formal collars and sharp, designer lines. For men, dark fabric texture is more suitable. This will add masculinity and self-confidence to them!
