Fashion grandparents are increasingly appearing on the pages of magazines and on social media accounts. Being old is fashionable these days. This applies to both immediate age and appearance. Older people select fashionable looks, take professional photographs, and post them online without hiding their age. So, at the moment, fashion for old age is at the peak of popularity, which even young people imitate.
Fashion for old age: what is it and where did it come from?
It all started back in 2007, when the photographer Ari Seth Cohen on my blog Advanced Style started posting photos of beautiful and stylish old ladies in New York. He later released a book and even a documentary about it. This is how middle-aged but stylish older people got into the camera lens, and some of them starred in advertising campaigns of famous brands in 2013.
The peak of this phenomenon occurred in 2014, when older models replaced young ones in advertising of famous brands. In 2014 we saw on the covers of magazines 69-year-old Hellen Mirren who starred in a L’Oréal commercial, and 56-year-old Madonna in a Versace ad.
This campaign was a success, and already in 2015 we see on the covers 93-year-old Iris Apfel, 80-year-old Joan Didien, 71-year-old Catherine Deneuve.
This is interesting! The fashion for older models was to the taste, and it was adopted by different segments of the population.
Fashion for old age in everyday life
People often imitate ideals from covers or television screens. This trend has not been ignored either. The following manifestations of this trend are now observed among people with average incomes and professions not related to the modeling field:
- More and more older people are opening accounts on Instagram and posting their “stylish” photos. Fashionable Instagram grannies appear online who do not hide their age.
- The older generation selects clothes more carefully and is willing to pay a lot of money for it, increasingly choosing fashion trends.
- The activity of older people has increased: they go to gyms, travel more, and prefer active recreation. This is also due to the desire to take presentable photos for your Instagram account.
In general, pensioners with average incomes living in big cities have embraced this trend. They are interested in fashion news, dress stylishly, attend youth events more often, and lead an active lifestyle.
On a note! City pensioners have already picked up this trend and are actively following it.
Should I imitate Western fashion?
Fashion for old age came to us from Western countries. But it is slowly entering the minds and habits of Russians. Many Russian pensioners remain faithful to the ideal of the Soviet grandmother, baking pies, caring for grandchildren, and leading a measured lifestyle.
Whether this is good or bad, we cannot say for sure. After all, everyone chooses life for themselves. On the one hand, if all the grandmothers move to Instagram, showing fashionable looks, who will bake pies and make the house cozy. But on the other hand, fashion for old age shows that even at 90, life is full of colors and positive impressions.
We will not imitate! We will create our own style!
otherwise, of course, we have our own taste and homeland
The models shown are complete crap!
