Order in the house means order in the head. This worldly wisdom should become a motto for everyone. Many housewives are wondering how to organize the storage of things in the closet and on the shelves so that they do not wrinkle, get lost or take up a lot of space. This also applies to socks, which, although they do not take up much space, disappear at the most inopportune moment. “Smart” storage will allow you to find the right pair in just a second.
Where can and cannot be stored socks?
The question of where to keep hosiery is purely individual and depends on the preferences and capabilities of a particular person. We can outline only a few rules that should be followed to properly organize your wardrobe:
- socks should be placed separately from other small items of clothing. First of all, this is a guarantee of your convenience and time saving. Searching for a pair of socks in a drawer among an endless array of gloves, hats, belts or underwear is not an easy task.In addition, in the morning it causes even more irritation;
- socks do not “live” on the same shelf with large things like sweaters, T-shirts or jeans. They will constantly get lost under bulky items, get tangled in sleeves and pants;
- It’s more convenient to store socks in a limited space: in a drawer, on a small shelf, in special compartments. If socks are thoughtlessly thrown onto a large shelf in a wardrobe, this will lead to chaos and disorder, which we want to avoid;
- no need to stack anything on chairs, sofas or under the bed. It is better to send worn items to the wash, and put washed ones in a secluded place. Suddenly guests arrive unexpectedly, and you have socks scattered everywhere. First of all, it is unethical, since they are classified as underwear.
Get rid of single socks from time to time. Of course, the hope for the appearance of a second one is always the last to die, but practice shows that this happens quite rarely. In addition, the absence of incomplete pairs will greatly facilitate storage.
Ways to store socks
Modern furniture, such as chests of drawers, are often equipped with built-in compartments for storing linen. If your drawers don't have these compartments, don't despair. There are many more options for organizing these wardrobe items.
Homemade boxes
One of the simplest and most affordable options. The storage container can be made from an ordinary shoe box. Their advantage is that they are very dense and stable and will not fall apart when filled. You can use a ready-made box, cover it with beautiful paper or decorate it with decorative elements to your taste.
After this, all that remains is to carefully fold the socks into the box.Such packaging can be stored either in a closed cabinet or on an open shelf (especially if the box is designed to match the interior of the room and is equipped with a lid).
Take note of a couple more tips for using boxes:
- It’s convenient to store seasonal items in closed boxes: knitted leg warmers and insulated tights. Just put them on the top shelves of the closet and take them out next winter;
- From one box you can make two containers yourself: use the box itself for large items, for example, tights or socks, and equip the lid as a tray for nylon products.
You can also glue the box yourself from thick cardboard. Its size varies depending on the number of items and the amount of storage space available.
Wicker baskets
A cute option for girls and women. It is great for open shelves or the floor, because it fits into almost any interior. Baskets are produced with or without lids, and the inside can be lined with soft fabric or divided into small compartments.
In addition to wicker ones, there are also plastic baskets. They are not as elegant, but no less functional. They will fit even better in a high-tech style room.
Special organizers
One of the most convenient things to store. They are frame boxes made of fabric that can be placed in drawers and thereby divide the space into compartments. They are also made from cardboard, less often - from plastic.
It is most practical to place such organizers in drawers; most importantly, when purchasing, decide that the size of the container fits the intended location. The main advantage of this option is the formula: one cell - one pair of socks. With such an organization, a minimum amount of time will be spent searching for your favorite couple.
It is convenient to store socks in the organizer in the following ways (they are also suitable for other storage options):
- roll each pair;
- make “lumps” - insert one sock into the other and partially turn the top one inside out.
Zip bags
They are understood as plastic bags with a sealed seal. They are quite dense and easy to close and protect from dust, but there is a big disadvantage - a waste of time packing socks after washing and, if necessary, getting the right item. That's why they are much more practical to use for long-term storage, for example, winter socks and tights.
If you still decide to use this method, then Choose bags of different sizes for different types of hosiery.
Hanging pockets
An option for those who want to rationally use space, or in the case if the closet is very small. They are several rows of pockets on thick fabric. The pockets themselves can be either transparent or not, and can be located on one or both sides.
There are two types of hanging pockets:
- on a loop or hole that is attached to a wall or hook;
- attached to a hanger. They can be hung on a rail for dresses or shirts.
