Some ten years ago we had no idea that a skirt could be mint, a scarf could be dusty, and a coat could be powdery. What inspires modern designers and how to understand the tonal diversity of modern clothing? I propose to find out the meaning and correspondence of the name and color.
Powder
It immediately becomes unclear what the color of powder has to do with clothing? Are we talking about its velvety crumbly structure or some specific shade?
In fact, the “powdery” color absolutely exactly replicates the palette located on the stands of cosmetics stores. The powder range includes a large number of shades, ranging from light beige to café au lait and even some pink shades. Well, something between beige and pink. This is a universal color that suits almost every girl or woman. Light powdery tones are very delicate and are used to create romantic, spiritual images.
What to combine such a soft shade with? It's incredibly simple, I tell you! After all, powdery color combines with almost any darker and richer shade. Let's look at examples.
- Under a powdery “top” you can safely wear a black skirt or trousers or blue jeans.
- Powdery leggings can be complemented with a snow-white blouse or any other that matches the overall style of the top.
- A dress in this cocktail-type tone with a shiny texture looks luxurious and charming.
Crocus
Everything here is quite prosaic. The designers were inspired by a delicate spring flower of the same name. But few people know what a crocus looks like and, having stumbled upon a thing with such a characteristic in an online store, it becomes unclear what it is and what to wear it with.
And the first thing that is important to know about the shade is its psychological application. Modern designers emphasize that the crocus color is suitable for strong and courageous women who are confident in their irresistibility and sense of style. This is a bright and rich color that can be used both to create a monochrome image and to highlight its individual elements.
Overweight women should think several times before buying a crocus-colored item and it is better to direct their attention to the “powder” department.
Nude
The word itself translated from English means “naked”, “naked”.
Clothes of “naked” color still top the rankings in the fashion world, but no one can answer exactly what color it is. The fact is that “nude” is not one color, it is a generalizing group that includes all shades of a natural tone that is closest to skin color. That’s why it’s easiest to create the effect of a “naked outfit” with nude items.The closer the color of the clothing is to the natural color of your skin, the more “nude” the outfit.
Let's see where this tone is used:
- in dresses that add femininity and lightness;
- in trousers that visually thin and slim the figure;
- in blouses that make the silhouette almost weightless;
- in outerwear, which is practically unsuitable for rain and snow, but looks very impressive.
Things in nude shades are truly universal and suit everyone, in general, like powder. Both young brunettes and blondes of “Balzac age” can wear them.
I wonder what color is considered nude for dark-skinned young ladies?
Marsala
And this color was apparently invented over a glass of wine of the same name, which struck me with its saturation and richness of shade. By the way, this is not the first wine shade. Earlier, Bordeaux appeared, which also repeats the name of the wine variety, and, of course, the color.
Should we expect colors like Tarragon or Pinocchio from domestic designers?
Marsala can be found everywhere: in clothes, accessories and even makeup. This spectacular color is very loved and used in creating an image by everyone, even those to whom it absolutely does not suit.
Lime
It’s easy to imagine what exotic citrus looks like - after all, it’s just a green lemon. But figuring out how to incorporate this trendy shade into your everyday look is difficult. What exactly do you mean – lime skin, dark and green, or pulp of a more delicate transparent shade?
Neon, flashy (like lime punch, for example) and not always appropriate, lime color is at the peak of popularity and is used by most fashion designers as the leader in the collection. Fashionistas need to remember that they need to select details for a lime dress very carefully. This color is self-sufficient and does not like competition.If you put lime on yourself together with marsala, it won’t turn out very nice, to put it mildly.
Mint
If you imagine an ordinary, green mint bush, you can become even more confused than before this idea.
“Mint” can be all shades from soft green to greenish-blue, the main condition is that they must be of a cool type, this is the message of the creator of this shade.
Mint is simply a must-have in a summer wardrobe, as it cools, soothes and pacifies. What you need to pay attention to when buying mint-colored clothes is the type of fabric. If the material is cheap and of poor quality, the item will not look comme il faut and you can easily end up with a banal olive instead of luxurious mint.
Dusty Rose
Here's another color that makes me puzzled. What does dusty rose mean? Dirty, covered with dust that grows right next to the road?
Looking at this color in clothes in general, this is what happens. These are soft pink shades with an admixture of some kind of gray. Of course, the color is not for everyone, but it is considered trendy.
I am glad that the color is not whimsical and goes well with many other contrasting and bright colors, as well as similar ones.
What else is a curiosity?
In addition to those listed above, the following shades can cause surprise and misunderstanding of what it looks like:
- Greenery. Experts from the Color Institute used this unusual overseas word to describe the color yellow-green.
- Niagara. In fact, the color of “Niagara” is the same as the water in the entire famous waterfall – blue.
- Flame. Items included in the “flame” palette are skirts and trousers in fiery red. They burn, they burn!
- Kale. The color of curly cabbage will appeal to all fans of military uniforms.And for those who don’t know what color curly cabbage is... these are military-style green shades, what’s unclear?
- Camel. The color of camel wool is sand, and it cannot be called anything else, but sand is boring and boring, but camel - yes, camel - is fresh and not hackneyed.
- Peacock pink. Has anyone seen a pink peacock? Is there something I don't know? Be that as it may, in fact it is a well-known fuchsia or a mixture of pink and crimson.
- Chili oil. It's been terracotta all my life, but now we decided to add pepper to the oil.
- Emperador. What can I say, chocolate diluted with cognac. Perhaps the stylist, who was heavily drunk on cognac and chocolate, was unable to pronounce the word “emperor,” so they decided to leave it that way.
It’s very easy to get lost in the multitude of unusual fashionable words, just look at the cabbage.
What I absolutely don’t understand is why make everything so complicated?! Why call something that has already been named and known for a long time with some new and very strange words.
This is probably the main fashion secret: everything new is well-forgotten old.
