Autumn-winter looks for women: how to dress fashionably in cold weather

Autumn-winter looks for women

Unless you live in a warm country, chances are you're wondering how you can look cute and stylish in very cold weather?

We asked ourselves the same question until we found a few tips that changed our attitude towards autumn-winter looks.

A quick note: these are just tips, not rules. If you love wearing something and you feel great in it, keep wearing it - style is very personal.

Start with the basics

If you want to look stylish but also feel warm, the quickest way to achieve this is to buy a pair of wool or thermal tights that you can wear under jeans and trousers. This way, you can wear whatever you normally wear without worrying about being cold.

This tip may seem obvious, but most people don't do it, so if you haven't already, invest in some good thermal tights.

You can do the same with your top - add a nice cotton bodysuit or kami to keep you warm without being too bulky.

Adviсe: And don't forget about socks! Thick socks can be a real lifesaver.

Choose the right winter jacket

The second most important thing to have in the winter is a great, warm jacket. But often these jackets are too big, bulky and shapeless, rather than stylish and cute.

How to achieve a more elegant look for cold autumn? Belt your winter jacket. Whether it's a puffer jacket or a jacket, a belt can highlight your waist and make you look more put together. Experiment with jackets and belts you already own to see how you look most stylish.

When choosing a new jacket, keep style and comfort in mind. And be sure to follow these tips:

  • Enough space to move your arms comfortably. This point is not always easy to find, but it is the most important. While still in the store, imagine that you are driving and trying to reach something. Nothing should limit you. And if there is nothing thick under your coat, like in winter, put on any item in the store with a thicker knit, because this is how you will wear it in real life.
  • Look for a coat with a belt or waist. We don't have to sacrifice warmth for style, so we can look for belted or waist coats instead.
  • For style and warmth, look for a longer coat: Short jackets can be cute, but it's best to look for a long winter coat. You will most often take it off in the car anyway, but you shouldn’t freeze outside.

Choose a color that suits you: Color can make or break a look, so make sure you know what style you want before heading to the store. If you don't have a coat that you already wear, choose neutral colors such as black, cream, camel or gray. These are timeless colors that will make your coat more versatile and stylish. But you know your wardrobe best, so make sure whatever color you choose will go with most of your wardrobe.

Avoid fussy items (unless they reflect your style): When investing in a coat, look for versatility and durability. Jackets without fancy fittings or designs tend to be more classic and therefore a better buy. So beware of fashion items that may make the jacket less versatile, both now and in the future.

Buy a winter jacket with a hood, preferably a removable one. This will keep you protected if you get caught in the rain or snow, and you can also remove it if you want to wear it with a wool hat or beret.

Protect your shoes with water repellent

If winter is cold, then most likely it is also rainy and snowy. It depends on what your daily lifestyle is, but if you don't walk outside often, then investing in snow or rain boots isn't necessary.

Instead, you can protect the shoes you already own with a water repellent. Another fantastic choice if you don't walk in the rain or snow all day are flat boots.

Advice: Avoid heels if you constantly walk. Not only are they uncomfortable, they slip, but heels in winter are an additional chance of injury.
