A scarf is a convenient and practical accessory. However, its incorrect use can make the shoulders look massive, shorten the neck and make the face yellow. To prevent this from happening, learn how to tie stoles in different ways.
How to tie
There are many ways to tie scarves over coats. Let's look at the most interesting ones in our opinion.
Long warm scarf
First way:
- Drape it over your shoulders. The ends should be the same length.
- Wrap the right end around your neck on the left. Left - neck on the right.
- Pull the resulting clamp down a little.
- Take the right end of the scarf. Thread it through the clamp so that it comes out on the left side.
- Take the left end. Thread it through the clamp so that it comes out on the right side.
Second option:
- Drape the scarf so that the ends are on your back.
- Throw the right tip over your left shoulder.
- Throw the left tip over your right shoulder.
This method can be further enhanced by tucking the ends of the accessory into the belt.
Third way simpler than all the previous ones. One end is simply thrown over the shoulder. The second one is left hanging.
Long light scarf
Method #1:
- Drape the scarf over your shoulders so that the ends are behind your back.
- Wrap the right end around your neck so that the tip is in front.
- Wrap the left end around your neck so that the tip is in front.
- Tie the ends with a double knot.
- Move the knot closer to the shoulder. You can leave it in plain sight or hide it under the folds of a stole.
Method No. 2 (over the head):
- Fold the accessory so that you get a thin long strip of fabric.
- Wrap your head like a headband.
- Tie at the back.
- Place the ends on your chest.
Light square scarf
- Fold into a triangle. Throw it around the neck. The ends of the scarf should be behind your back.
- The right end is wrapped around the neck on the left, and the left end on the right.
- Very small tips remain. They are tied under the collar (or on top).
Large square scarf
A solution for those who want to make a collar out of a shawl.
- Tie the ends.
- Put it on your neck.
- Twist under the throat.
- Put it on again.
- Beautifully distribute the folds over the chest and shoulders.
If the product is too large, then you can try to make a third loop (put it on one more time).
With the use of additional accessories
Option No. 1 (with a brooch or ring):
- Fold into a triangle.
- Throw it over your shoulders.
- Wrap around your neck.
- Secure the ends with a brooch.
Option number 2 (with brooch):
- Throw it over your shoulders so that the right end is very short.
- We wrap the left edge around the neck twice, grabbing the shoulder.
- On the third loop we move the free right tip to the shoulder, and the right one goes there too. As a result, the right edge should be hidden under the folds, while the left one will hang down.
- The ends are fastened with a brooch.
Windsor knot
- Fold the accessory lengthwise.
- Wrap the strip around your neck.
- Pull out the right end (make it longer than the left).
- Make a loop.
- Pass the right end through the loop twice.
- Tie a loose knot like a tie.
- Straighten, add volume.
Tips for choosing a scarf
Color
You need to consider which shades suit your face. An incorrectly selected option can give yellowness, highlight skin imperfections and visually age you.
When choosing, they also rely on the color of outerwear. Monotony is acceptable, but images where the coat and a separate element of the scarf pattern are combined in tone look much more interesting.
There is no need to give up the game of contrasts either. Especially if the shade of your hair is close to the shade of your coat or jacket. For example, when they are both black. In this case, you can’t do without a red or white stole. For some women, it makes sense to try to dilute the dark background with:
- pastel shades;
- pink;
- silver;
- purple.
Attention! A long black coat is played up with the help of wide or narrow elongated stoles. There is no need to tie the accessory; let it fall freely at the edges.
It is also worth striving to ensure that the scarf, when the cloak is open, does not look like an alien element. To avoid this, try to take into account not only the colors of the outerwear, but also the main dress.
On a note! To avoid turning into a parrot, wear colorful scarves with caution.
Remember that animal prints on a stole are unlikely to look good next to a business suit. Moderately romantic motifs, classic patterns and plain options are combined with a strict dress code. It is acceptable to use a thin scarf as an alternative to a tie.
Material
Flowing and light fabrics get lost under heavy, insulated coats. They perform neither an aesthetic nor a protective function (they do not provide warmth). Therefore, they should be postponed until the off-season or summer. Or start wearing them as an accessory to complement a dress or suit.
For the cold season, only stoles made of natural and durable fabrics are suitable. The canvas should at least slightly retain air flow and not be afraid of water ingress. If this leaves stains on the material, then it should not be worn in winter. Drops from melted snow will not allow you to look neat.
Model
Scarf-collar
It was relevant for a long time, but is now losing ground. If you decide to use it, be careful. In combination with an incorrectly selected jacket, it can visually enlarge the shoulders, shorten the neck and round the face.
Small handkerchiefs for wearing indoors
They also require caution. The wrong outfit and a scarf tied around the neck can turn a modern woman into a store manager or a USSR deputy.
Don’t build your image on the principles of “expensive and rich.” If there is a risk of overloading it, it is better to avoid accessories around the neck altogether.
